The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare meets Taming of the Shrew in the start to a new Regency series from award-winning author Amalie Howard.

Lord Nathaniel Harte, the disagreeable Duke of Beswick, spends his days smashing porcelain, antagonizing his servants, and snarling at anyone who gets too close. With a ruined face like his, it's hard to like much about the world. Especially smart-mouthed harpies―with lips better suited to kissing than speaking―who brave his castle with indecent proposals.

But Lady Astrid Everleigh will stop at nothing to see her younger sister safe from a notorious scoundrel, even if it means offering herself up on a silver platter to the forbidding Beast of Beswick himself. And by offer, she means what no highborn lady of sound and sensible mind would ever dream of―a tender of marriage with her as his bride.

The Beast of Beswick checked all my boxes:

  1.   Grumpy hero! He is physically and emotionally scarred and I loved it!
  2.   Strong, confident heroine who handles her business!
  3.   A “historical Beauty and the Beast”? A nod to Taming of the Shrew? Um, yes please!

Thane, the Duke, is certainly beastly. He is scarred and cranky and takes it out on anyone who dares to get close. Astrid is desperate to save her sister (who is only 16) from a horrible marriage to a total douche canoe! I adored both Thane and Astrid. Thane is the quintessential beastly recluse. Astrid is so much like Katherine from Taming of the Shrew. She is opinionated, not likely to swoon over trivial things, and sharp tongued.

The plot of The Beast of Beswick is really centered around Thane and Astrid trying to find a way to make this situation work. Their chemistry is wonderful and I loved it! If you are a fan of banter, you will gobble this book up quick because these two bring it. There is added drama regarding Astrid’s sister, and I kind of felt that it took away from what I really wanted-more Thane and Astrid! That was my biggest struggle with the The Beast of Beswick-anything that took the focus off these two!

Overall:

How to Love a Duke in 10 Days by Kerrigan Bryne, Wicked and the Wallflower by Sarah Maclean, Hello Stranger by Lisa Kleypas…then you will probably like The Beast of Beswick!
