She’s always played it safe…
College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule—avoid risk at all costs. She’s cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffeeshop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she’s willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who’s determined to sweep her off her feet?

He’s always played around…

Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew "Matty" Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it’s his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge—the hottie he’s lusting over just happens to be Ace’s childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it’s time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she’s not sleeping with the enemy.

what i think

Jockblocked is another wonderful edition to the sports romance world. I am beginning to think this might be my favorite sub-genre! That being said, its getting increasingly difficult to stand out in that genre because there are so many books about the same thing. But, Jockblocked stood out in a good way!

First, lets talk about Lucy. Some reviews mentioned they thought she was TOO over the top with her anxiety and risk/benefit stuff. Personally, as someone who suffers from OCD, I found it was perfectly written. Hearing Lucy explain how much thought goes into what, to everyone else, is a simple decision was exactly how I felt many times. I also loved that Matt didn’t push her to quit doing her risk assessment. He just encouraged her to include more benefits! He didn’t change who she was and that was awesome. So, Lucy is one of my favorite heroines for sure!

Now lets talk Matty….Sigh. I really did love him. He has all the trappings of your typical new adult hero: a bit selfish, cocky, manwhore-ish, and hot as hell. However, the way he is with Lucy from the first time the meet is awesome. He has no issues admitting he is totally into her. There is no other girl and when Lucy gets scared or worried, he addresses it straight on, explains everything and assuages her fear. There is no BS there and I loved it! He didn’t make her feel bad for questioning him or his actions! How hot is that!? He earns his way into her life. He doesn’t demand anything. He is willing to sit and watch girly tv shows with her and then leave at the end of the night with no expectations, no innuendo. He is just proving to her the benefits of him instead of the risks. Its really refreshing!

The ending of this book is probably one of my favorites. I don’t want to spoil it so I obviously won’t tell you but its not that anything major happens. Its the little things that happen that make is amazing.
