I decided to pop my Abbi Glines cherry with Rosemary Beach! I gobbled up all three books in a matter of days! These books are like New Adult angst and drama at its Springer-worthy best! Seriously, Rosemary Beach could be one big episode of Springer! However, I liked each book less…
Fallen Too Far, book 1, introduced us to Rush (the arrogant, rich, son of a rock star) and Blaire, the poor abandoned daughter of Rush’s new step father. Everyone in the whole damn town is immediately in love with Blaire. They think she is wonderful and perfect and farts rainbows. It was kind of annoying actually. Rush is your classic bad boy-his life is all about parties, girls, and more parties. He hates Blaire because of a huge secret about her family. Blaire has no idea what the secret is (or even that there is one) but the rest of the town does and nobody fucking tells her!! They just tell her that Rush will always side with Nanette over anyone else. This book centers on the push-pull of their attraction until the end when Blaire’s dad returns and she finds out the dirty family secret.
Never Too Far, Book 2, picks up with Blaire back in Alabama, and pregnant. She has drama with her old flame, and eventually, Bethy comes to visit and convinces her to return to Rosemary Beach. Rush is determined to win her back and vows to never put anyone ahead of Blaire again. He promises repeatedly that Blaire comes first. (spoiler alert: he breaks this promise REPEATEDLY). If Blaire had any other options in the world, she would have left his dumb ass. But, with no parents, and only a handful of friends, she is pretty much stuck sleeping on the floor (because she can’t afford a bed), walking 3.5 miles (because she can’t afford a car), and having to apply for medicare to pay for her doctors visits. Meanwhile, Rush has 4 cars, a giant house with beds in every room, and has never given money a second thought. The disparity between the 2 is striking, but it makes me even more irritated with Rush for not even wondering what her life is like. He never bothers to ask and then is shocked when he finds out she had to walk 3 miles because he left her standing in the driveway without a key to get in, or that she was sleeping on a friends couch and then eventually on the floor because she literally has NOTHING. Like, dude, you know what she has been through, how is it you keep missing this shit!? And what the fuck is up with Grant? Sometimes he is Team Nan then he does a 180 and is Team Blaire. His mood swings are giving me whiplash.
By the end of Forever Too Far, I’m still not sure I like Rush. He still screwed up a LOT in this book. Even after he said he would never put anyone before Blaire again…he does. Repeatedly. And every time she forgives him. It reminded me of the cycle of abuse. It just made me frustrated with them both. This book felt more like a wrap up and intro to other characters that will be featured in the next books in the series. I was ready to be done with Blaire and Rush by this point. Nan is set as the antagonist of the series, but honestly, I think Rush is the bad guy. Nan is a MAJOR bitch, a spoiled brat, and in serious need of psychiatric help to deal with the shit hand her life has dealt her, but she is just a mean girl. Rush breaks Blaire repeatedly. In my world, he is the villain.
I totally plan to continue reading the Rosemary Beach series; while I didn’t care for Rush, I love Glines’ writing and I devoured these books!

Springer-worthy! ROFL! I have Fallen Too Far & The Vincent Boys (that sounds like A LOT of crazy fun drama) on my Kindle, so I am still in need of reading an Abbi Glines book. I was going to start with The Vincent Boys since I was going to BR with a friend but I can’t wait to see what you think of the rest of this crazy series! Here’s hoping the ratings for the rest of the series goes up. 🙂
