When you’re a Delta Force soldier, you see a lot. Often too much. But nothing can ever prepare you to see your entire team die before your eyes…

The loss of his Delta brothers—and his arm—has Dane “Fish” Munroe still struggling months later. He’s moved to Idaho, where an isolated lifestyle is making things worse, not better. Not that there’s anyone left to care.

Actually, Bryn Hartwell cares. In fact, she tries to surreptitiously make life just a little easier for the mysterious man who comes into the grocery where she works late at night, only to get a tongue lashing for her trouble. Still, he’s obviously hurting; someone has to worry about him, spurring Bryn to nurse Dane when he hits a particularly low point.

Intrigued by the quirky, kind, socially awkward woman, Dane allows himself to get close to someone for the first time in ages. A potentially epic mistake—because when her interest in the prepper lifestyle puts Bryn in the hands of a homegrown terrorist, losing her could put Dane’s mental recovery permanently out of reach.

But once a Delta, always a Delta. And there’s a team in Texas who are ready to have Dane’s back at a moment’s notice.

**Rescuing Bryn is the 6th book in the Delta Force Heroes Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings. (less)

Rescuing Bryn brings us the story of Dane, aka Fish, a former soldier who lost his arm in battle, and Bryn, a woman on the Autism Spectrum living her life in the wilds of Idaho. These two have very little in common which makes the relationship even more interesting!

Dane has come to the middle nowhere (aka Idaho) to try and get himself together. He is struggling with PTSD and other issues after losing his arm. His friend and savior, Truck, keeps in touch via phone but is worried about Dane. Then, when grocery shopping one evening, he notices Bryn. Bryn has ASD and while she is brilliant and has a couple degrees in very advanced fields of math and science, she struggles with social aspects of society. She is fascinated by Dane, but he is a little touchy when he realizes her attempts to help him.

They don’t have a good first meeting but I think it was perfect and believable. You really can see the struggle Dane has with normal tasks, and you can see the struggle Bryn has with people. As they get to know each other better, you begin to see two very fascinating people! Dane is patient and supportive of Bryn, even though he doesn’t always understand her obsessions. Bryn is protective and supportive of Dane without making him feel like a freak. Its an odd relationship on the outside, but its perfect!

There is a small bit at the end that has some danger and drama but overall the story is not really about that. Rescuing Bryn is focused on 2 people with differences that make them outcasts in society finding the perfect person! Stoker’s books are always character driven and Bryn and Dane’s story is no different! I love that Stoker touches on people who are struggling in some way-physical struggles, emotional struggles, etc. Its impossible not to love her characters!

    • You would LOVE many of Susan Stoker’s books. She writes about a lot of wounded vets and even heroines who have various struggles (agoraphobia, ASD, burn scars)
