Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania: population two thousand outside of tourist season.
And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed attempt at a relationship, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has saved: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.
Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works.
For a time.
But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. What begins as an immediate friendship quickly turns into something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something that Catherine is afraid to trust.
Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine…before the spark fades?
Until it Fades brought back the feelings I had when reading my first KA Tucker book, 10 tiny breaths. The emotions are so deep and intense you can’t help but be sucked in. If you like your romances to give you the feels, you will enjoy Until it Fades with it sweet storyline!
Catherine’s story is one that most of us have ‘heard’. Everyone knows someone who knows someone who has had a scandal at their school involving a student/teacher relationship. Catherine’s parents force her to tell the police about her affair with the teacher and her reputation is ruined. She drops out of school, moves out, then finds out she is pregnant. Being a single mom who dropped out of high school wasn’t what she expected for her life, but she makes the best of it. Catherine puts a human face on the post drama life for a person involved in a scandal like this. Its so easy for us to judge from the outside when we hear of a story like this, but Catherine makes you reevaluate your ideas and perception.
The hero, Brett, was wonderful! He is a professional hockey player and very swoony! Catherine, obviously, wants nothing to do with a professional athlete because that would bring attention to her and she wants none of that. Brett is determined though. I adored him as a hero because he was nothing like a stereotypical pro athlete.
Until it Fades is a slow burn romance with dynamic characters and real life issues that will create a discord with your preconceived ideas while you fall in love with Catherine and Brett! My biggest struggle was the pace of the story felt a bit slow to me; I find this is my biggest struggle with ‘slow burn’ romances though! While predictable, the plot was still satisfying because I so desperately wanted the HEA for these two!
Till Death by Jennifer Lynn Armentrout, Undeclared by Jen Frederick, Fallen Too Far by Abbi Glines…then you will probably like Until it Fades!
The reviews for this one are all so good and I haven’t read anything by the author, will definitely check it out!
