Non-Bookish News:

We finally got some snow!! Hooray! Sadly, not enough for a snow day, but at least I finally got some snow. Next week, its suppose to be almost 60 degrees. Damn you, Ohio! I’m sick of your wishy-washy BS! Get it together!

It was only a 3 day work week because of the holiday break, but man, those 3 days were exhausting! The snow threw Thursday totally off. Most of the schools in the area were closed, so LOTS of our students didn’t come. Plus, I teach high school, so many kids drive or ride with another high school student. And it was a bit of a slippery drive to work that morning, so I can imagine that I wouldn’t want my child out driving in that. Then, the snow was getting worse as the day went on. So, they dismissed us at 2 (instead of our usual 2:45). Needless to say, the snow was making every giddy and its impossible to teach when you have 1/2 of your students absent and the other 1/2 looking out the window and wondering when they can go home!

This starts the busy time for me at work. All my students’ IEPs are due between now and April so I spend a lot of time doing paperwork, coordinating with parents and other school districts, and sitting in meetings. Plus, in March we have the 2nd round of state testing. Its gonna to be a tough run because our next break isn’t until Easter, which is at the end of April this year. Pray for me!! This is the hardest part of the year. Plus its winter and everyone gets sick and shares their germs!

My husband and his BFF are installing my new stove today. When we bought our home, it had an electric stove. I hate electric stoves and wanted gas. Turns out, the gas line in our house (which is what our water heater uses), runs right under where the stove is! So, its easy to run a line right up and hook up the new stove. Hopefully it goes well. I will admit I am a bit nervous that they are attempting them without a professional, but they have assured me they know what they are doing.

For my birthday in early December I got a new Macbook Pro with the touch bar. On the 22nd, a large cluster of pixels in the display quit working. There was a large black line across the entire top of the screen. So, we had to take it back to Apple, and they shipped it back to China for repair. Well, we FINALLY got the notice that its irreparable because they cannot get the parts they need. So, they are sending me a new one! I will just be glad to have it back. I have been using my old laptop, which is totally fine, but I would like to sell it. We could use the money! Hopefully the new one will be here soon (its been 3 weeks since we gave the other one to apple!).

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Looks like you got a lot of great new books this week! You read/reviewed so many books last week! You are on a roll! I haven’t read any of those ones yet but the Sarina Bowen book is on my list!

Hope you are having a great weekend!

  2. Congrats on the new stove. You know you are a boring adult when things like that get you excited. My top Christmas gifts were the new four slot toaster, hand mixer and four new sets of wooden blinds! Ha! I’m in Indiana, so I hear ya on the weather, but I’m NOT into winter weather, I’m 100% OKAY with just cold…no snow/ice/sleet/slush. I’d also be happy is like 40-degree rainy weather. haha, I know…

  3. It’s snowing all over here! 60 sounds pretty good, although I know what you mean- wishy washy weather. 🙂 Sorry to hear about the Macbook, but yay for a new one. Hope it arrives soon! The wait is always tough…

I’ll have to check out the Book Binge lists!

  4. Snow, a new stove, and a new Macbook, sounds like a busy week for you! That’s too bad you had the problems with the Macbook in the first place, but at least they’re replacing it and not screwing you over. Enjoy your new stove! Let us know next week if they did in fact manage to install it properly 😛

  5. Boy do I understand what you mean about trying to teach in the snow! I may be in Kinder instead of highschool, but they haven’t changed much it seems over those years lol! And no break until the end of April? Yikes! I feel for you – we have next Monday off and then we get a week in March. I have no doubt I will be ready come March 🙂 Good luck, this really is an insane time of year in education, even more so when you teach high school.

I’m laughing at the gas stove installation because my husband is a handy man and still I get nervous when he does things around the house. I get these flashbacks to Tool Time with Tim Allen. Did you watch that show? Hopefully your husband knows what he’s doing better than Tim did! 🙂

    Have a great week!

  6. I’m sooooo jealous of your new Macbook but that sucks that it had issues right away. At least you’re getting a new one, though, right??? And congrats on the new stove!!! I love my gas stove and I’m with you on cooking with gas. I’ll never go back to an electric range if I can help it. Fire rocks!!!!!

It’s so great you guys got that snow! I’m thinking we might get some this week but b/c we’re right on Lake Huron, snow misses us quite often. I have no clue why though 🙂

Good luck with the IEPs – I don’t envy the teachers doing those!! They are so much work and I’m only on the receiving end!!!!

  7. Hooray for the three day work week – that had to be nice. Now the long gap until another break begins. Nice on the new stove but I’m with you – I would have been super nervous for them doing the install themselves. Eeek! That’s lame you have to wait so long to get your laptop back but great news that they’re going to replace it for you! I’m super excited for Lucian Divine which released today. Two of Renee Carlino’s books made it onto my best of 2016 list so now I want to read everything she writes. 🙂

  8. I’m back because I just remembered it’ll be close to 60 Thursday! 😛
You don’t seem to like snow as much as I thought anyway 🙂 Just reading your about your spring is making exhausted. I refused to think about my own 🙂 I rather have electric stoves!! I don’t trust gas lines. NOPE. Hope you enjoy your new stove though and the BRAND NEW Macbook Pro 🙂

  9. The weather is definitely a little crazy lately. Last week it was in the 70s and then it dropped to the 40s. My little ones got sick so that was no fun. Congrats on the new MacBook! I’m glad they’re sending you a new one! Yay for a new stove! Our stove is really old so we’ve been looking into getting a new one.

Best of luck on getting all the IEPs together. I was stressed and exhausted just reading all you have to do.

I bought Lucian Devine and I can’t wait to read it!!

  10. yay for getting some snow! We had a little bit of snow here, that was gone the next afternoon, but it did look pretty for a few seconds after it fell. I never realized this was the hardest time of the year for teachers, i wish you luck in getting through it! I hope the set-up for your new stove goes well. I prefer cooking on gas as well, much more intuitive than electric. I hope you get your new laptop soon. Have a great week!
