Non-Bookish News:

How is July over? I am not done with summer vacation yet? I need more time! Gah. Monday I ease back into my teaching routine. For the next 2 weeks I teach a test prep class for 3 hours a day. The extra money is good and it is a nice, slow transition into being back to work again after the summer off! Once those two weeks are done, we start with teacher in service, freshmen orientation, and then the first day of school August 23rd. Thankfully, I like my job and my students. I will have my returning students who will be seniors, and then I am picking up the juniors this year as well. My teammates are both new to special education and the juniors/seniors are the most difficult at times because of ACT testing, college applications, summary of performance reports, etc. So, it worked out that I could have these kids for another year to give the other girls more time to learn the ropes. Next year I will pick up freshmen and I am not going to know what to do with myself! Freshmen are SO different from seniors. Its hard to believe they are in the same building. I have not had freshmen in over 4 years!

Saturday we had a family get together in Indiana. My grandfather and aunt live in Kentucky, then my parents and 2 uncles live in Ohio (like myself), and then my mother’s other brother lives in Indiana. So, the meeting point was decided to be Indiana. I was okay with it because that meant 2 hours in the car to listen to my book. My parents live about an hour away, so there was no way I was going to drive to their house then drive the 2 hours with them. That was crazy. So, I had the car all to myself (hubby had to work). Its always nice to see my family. My cousins are awesome and my aunts and uncles are the best. We don’t get together often (maybe 2 times a year) but we always pick up like we just saw each other yesterday.

This week I binge watched all 10 seasons of The Big Bang. I love that show so much and I haven’t had a good binge in a while so it was great to go back through all the episodes. I forgot how much I loved some of them (The one with James Earl Jones! The one with the scavenger hunt! Gah! So funny!)

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Sounds like you had a great week (and month) Samantha! For us, school starts again on August 28th, but I have to be at work on the 21st. And I’m going to be so very busy, with six different classes to teach. It’s going to be great, though, as I’ll actually start the school year with my students for once.
You reviewed so many books in July! I’m kind of sad you DNF’ed Heather Long’s story… I met her at RT, and she was great. But I haven’t read any of her books yet, and I hate it if I don’t enjoy a book by an author I get along with well.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  2. You binge-watched 10 seasons of Big Bang in 1 week?!?!?! I’m in AWE!! Those are some serious binge-watching skills there! Boo that you have to head back to school soon though. You’ll be busy, but it honestly sounds like you have such a fulfilling job. Those kids will be grateful to you! πŸ™‚
Have a good week ahead, Sam!

  3. I LOVE The Big Bang Theory. Every night I watch an episode. I let my TVO recored new and old. I can’t settle down for the night with out watching either The Big Bang Theory or M*A*S*H. You had some great books this week on the blog. I added a few to my TBR.

I’m with you on July. I can’t believe it’s over, but I’m excited for school. My son starts Kindergarten at the end of Aug. Hope you have a good start back at school! That’s great you got to have a family reunion/visit. I didn’t know you live in Indiana. I’m from (born and raised) in Indiana. I miss farm country ^_^.

  4. That’s too bad you haven’t found a 5-star read yet! I’ll keep my fingers crossed you find an excellent one in August! I love The Bing Bang too! It’s such a funny show. I used to bing watch it all the time back in my freshmen year of college, but it’s been a long time since I’ve caught up with the gang. I really need to re-watch one of these days. Hope you have an amazing week, and happy reading! πŸ™‚

  5. Wow! All 10 seasons in one week?! That’s a lot of Sheldon (not a bad thing). I feel your NG/EW pain. I have been waiting on a bunch of requests. WE always comes all at once for me. Every. Time. I am interested to hear your thoughts on the VanDyken book. I usually like her stuff.

  6. Big Bang is a fun show! And I know- I can’t believe school is almost here (and I’m not even a teacher!!). Summer goes by SO fast. Hope you have anice relaxing transtion into being back. πŸ™‚

Looks like a great discussion post idea coming up!

  7. It is strange listening to you talking about preparing to go back to school as I only finished teaching last week:). Oh my word – don’t you review a LOT of books?? I’m so impressed – though sorry you haven’t LOVED any of them during July. I’m glad you had such a great family get-together – I also enjoy those… As for The Big Bang theory – I’m envious! I have the first few seasons on DVD and whenever I need cheering up it’s my go-to series – nothing makes me howl with laughter so much. Have a great week – and hopefully that elusive FIVE STAR book will blow you away…

  8. oh looks like it was a good week of reading for you, and look at all those REVIEWS!! My goodness. I am very impressed.

I like Big Bang Theory, but I can’t watch it too much hehe

  9. Glad to hear you had a great week. Oh you make me curious about shattered by Cynthia Eden. Ever since you mentioned this author, I’ve been eyeing her books. Enjoy your new books and have a wonderful week. ?

  10. Awesome amount of posts!
I don’t get how you managed with 10 seasons so quickly! πŸ˜€ I’m currently binge watching Private Practice.

    Have a wonderful week!

  11. I can imagine Seniors and Freshman are totally different and sure that will be an adjustment!! I love a car ride by myself as long as there isn’t a lot of traffic. Wow that is some binge!! I love that show too. ave a great week!

  12. *sigh* I have a little more time than you do, but I’m really not ready for August yet either! I go back the 16th for in-service and my kiddos arrive on the 28th. Teaching Kinder I never know what I’m going to get, so finger’s crossed. I’ve already learned I’m getting a teacher at my school’s kid and I’m seriously nervous about it!

10 seasons, 1 week!? *applause* that’s a GOOD binge πŸ˜‰ I haven’t watched more than a smattering of that show, but would like to. Maybe I’ll try to do a 1 week binge like you did hahaha

Have a great week back to things!

  13. My husband and I managed to binge-watch 4 seasons of Big Bang Theory in a week but not all of them! I bow to your far superior binge watching skills. haha!! Sorry to hear that you’ve gone a whole month without a 5 star rating. That’s always disappointing, but it does look like you’ve had a great reading month. My friend is a high school teacher and she was just complaining that she isn’t ready for school to start back up either. She’s also got an exchange student coming to live with her in a few more weeks so she’s stressing about that too. lol! Hope you have a better reading month in August!

  14. Wow, all 10 seasons of The Big Bang Theory in a week, I’m tipping my hat in respect. πŸ˜€ I recently caught up with it, and I quite like it. πŸ™‚ It’s great that you got to have a get together with your family and I hope the transition back to work life goes well!
