Non-Bookish News:

So, last week I was bitching about the heat and the overall crappy summer ick that is Ohio. Well, Sunday night we got a crazy heavy rain storm. And, my school flooded. 4 inches of rain in under 2 hours. The building is almost 100 years old and it has these areas on the roof that can collect water. Normally not a big deal-it does drain. But when you get so much rain so quickly, Β the drains weren’t quick enough and it seeped into some windows and poorly sealed areas. So, we had to cancel school Monday and Tuesday. We were lucky. 2 other schools near us missed the whole week. Our football field was totally destroyed (it sits at the bottom of a hill!). So, we are having to play games all over the city while they totally replace the turf. They are hoping to have it done so that we can have a final home football game on the field.

I am continuing to get ready for my upcoming trip to Italy. I am headed to my parents house today to grab a suitcase. I think once I have that, I will have everything! I am a bit worried about my students while I am gone though. There are 18 kids going on the trip; however, not a single one of them is on my caseload so all my students will be without their intervention specialist for 10 days. They are juniors and seniors so they know the drill by now and I am sure they will be fine. But, I still worry. I mean, I worry about EVERYTHING!

My husband took his birthday money from my mom and bought a web camera so we can see the dogs during the day! Its too cute! He mounted it in the mud room where the dogs stay while we are at work. It has a microphone too so we can talk to them. My productivity at work has plummeted. Its a real concern. But they are just too cute!!!

In my never-ending quest to find ways to avoid leaving my house, my husband and I discovered Amazon now. We have used Amazon Pantry before and thats great, but Amazon now is super handy. FYI-in some places deliver booze. YEP! In about 2 hours, you can have someone bring you a 6 pack of beer or a bottle of wine. WHY DIDN’T SOMEONE INVENT THIS SOONER? So, our order this week: milk and dog treats. Yep, thats all we got. Hahaha! The next day my husband had them bring lots of snacks and stuff because he forgot his lunch. So, he placed and order and in a couple hours, he had someone drop off food at his work.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I don’t think Amazon provides those kinds of services in Australia… I hate shopping so would love to be able to order anything… We can do online grocery shopping through supermarkets, or have alcohol delivered but usually it requires a day or two notice.

I’m seriously envious about that Italy trip!

  2. Rules of a Rebel and a Shy Girl sounds right up my alley!! I need to read it!
I knew about Amazon Pantry but Amazon Now sounds freaking amazing! I need that in my life haha especially this past week.
I hope the football field gets restored quickly!

  3. I love Amazon, and have branched out into ordering furniture, and last week, a new Coach handbag and wallet. But food…and booze? I’m checking that out, as I hate leaving the house, too. LOL.

I got Exhume this week…it looks good.

Enjoy your trip, and thanks for sharing. Here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES

  4. We have online grocery shopping, which I just did this morning. It makes life so much easier and really helps me budget my money. Don’t know what I would do without it. We don’t have anything that delivers wine, that would be dangerous since I am currently out of wine πŸ™‚

I would love a webcam for the house just to see what the dog and cat do during the day or when the kids are home.

I hope you have a wonderful week Samantha! Happy Reading! ox

    • Yes, we have online grocery shopping and my husband and I both agree we save money that way because we aren’t just blindly grabbing!! But, it doesn’t deliver which sucks!
The webcam is super cool. Although I am sure my coworkers are tired of me saying “Oh look at them now!” and making them watch with me.
      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. We use Amazon a lot too… mainly for books and my husband has found the Amazon Prime service really brilliant – and now discovered that he can also download music to listen to, as well. Hope the preparations continue smoothly for your Italian trip – and what a shame that the school had so much damage in the storm. You must have had a huge amount of rain come down… Have a great week and hope there are no more storms! This is my Sunday Post – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/09/04/sunday-post-4th-september/

    • Yes, we love Amazon prime! And now with prime pantry and prime now, its even better!! I haven’t though about using it for music though. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Oh we have online delivery service here too (not Amazon but drinks are drinks!) and it’s the best. I really liked Destined for a King, such a good book, totally surprised me and I’m picky when it comes to historical genres! OMG, Italy β™₯

  7. That’s awful about the flooding at the school! What a mess! The clean up process is no fun either, but hopefully you didn’t have to deal with any of that. My dad’s favorite story from his teen years was rowing a boat through his high school in Pennsylvania when it flooded one year.

I understand your concern about your students while you’re away. I imagine you have someone covering your caseload while you are gone? I hope you have a good time in Italy! Such a wonderful opportunity!

We got a free web camera when we upgraded our alarm system. It’s pretty limited in scope, but I love peeking in occasionally to see if I can spot one of the cats. I can imagine how distracting it would be watching your dogs. Haha I’d probably do the same.

I do use Amazon like crazy, but not yet to buy stuff I need during the same day. It’s very tempting though . . .

I just finished a cowboy romance that I enjoyed. It had quite a bit more suspense than I anticipated, but that was a good thing. πŸ™‚

    • Yes, the kids wanted to canoe on the football field but that water was sewage run off and not just rain run off so we had to quickly block off access!!
My husband and I are currently considering having Amazon bring us snacks. Neither of us wants to leave the house!

  8. Amazon Now… I had no idea! How cool is that lol? I might have to look into that… πŸ™‚ and I laughed about your productivity comment. Yeah being able to check in on pets at home, that would seriously hamper my ability to get work done. πŸ™‚ Sorry to hear about the flooding, that’s awful. Hopefully they get the new turf in on time.

Good luck with your trip planning! Have a great week.

    • Yes, Amazon now is brilliant!! We just had them deliver ice cream, gummy worms, and 2 pairs of headphones we found on sale! Man I love America in 2016!

Sadly for my kids, the turf won’t be in until MAYBE the last home football game. So, they will have to play every game, including homecoming, somewhere else.

      Thanks for stoping by!

  9. I am super jealous of your trip to Italy lol. I know you’re going to have a blast! Did you decide on what book you want to read for your September TBR? Was it The Protector?

    • Actually, I am reading the Protector now! Then Rookie move!! But I am DYING for #BAE!!!! Sadly, that one doesn’t come out until the 16th and she doesn’t do ARCs.

  10. Empire of Storms comes out this week!!! Can’t wait. Oh man, that stinks about the flooding. Hope they cleaned it up well so mold doesn’t start. I’m sure the students will be fine, just enjoy your time. That’s funny about the webcam. Does it confuse the dogs when you talk to them?

    • Thankfully, our principal lives right behind the school, so they were in there cleaning pretty much as soon as it happened. And the building is REALLY old (built in 1928) so everything is stone which made it easier to clean as well!
I actually haven’t talked to them because I know if Calleigh hears my voice, she is going to think I’m home and that would just be mean. My husband talks to them though. They just tilt their heads and go back to sleep!

  11. Yikes, that’s terrible about the schools flooding, especially the football field. But at least you only missed a couple days. I’m sure the kids were happy lol.

How cute about setting up the webcam to watch the dogs!

That Amazon Pantry thing sounds really cool. I feel like I’ve heard of it but just thought it was a fancy name for delivering food products, but I didn’t realize it was a fast grocery service kind of thing.

    Have a great week!

  12. Wow, that sounds like one intense storm. Sorry to hear about the damage it caused at the school. πŸ™ That Amazon Now is so awesome. I just learned recently that Amazon is building a distribution center in my city so I’m hoping that means insanely fast delivery. πŸ™‚

  13. Oh wow, Amazon Now? I haven’t heard of that but I’m going to check it out just as soon as I leave your blog. That’s awesome!

That sucks about your school though. We don’t get any rain here in Southern California.

Ooh, a trip to Italy? That’s amazing! That’s sure to be so much fun!

  14. Sorry to hear about the flooding! That sounds annoying, i hope they replace the turf on the field soon so you can play there again.
That sounds awesome you can see your dogs while your on your work! And I hope you’ll have fun on your trip to Italy. That’s pretty cool you can order something and they deliver it that fast. I don’t think they do that here. Have a great week!

  15. Jen

Good luck packing for your trip, I bet it’s going to be beyond amazing! I LOVE that you got a cam so you can see your dogs!! They sound like so much fun and utterly distracting! When I was with my sister-in-law last month we checked on their web cam to see how their doggy was doing and she was being NAUGHTY! She had grabbed my sister’s uniform jacket for work, dragged it to her bed and then walked away and we were all like PHEW but then she ran back into the room, pounced on her bed and started to rip apart the jacket. It was so funny yet so horrible because her uniforms are expensive. Here’s hoping you never have an instance like that, I’m sure no one else will have that kind of luck lol!
