Non-Bookish News:

So, this week was homecoming week for my students. Each day is a new theme of craziness! Trying to teach during a week like this is tough, but it is fun to see them dress like their favorite character or a tacky tourist. However, the most rewarding thing happened Friday. So, its a tradition in our school that on the day of the homecoming game, the seniors on the football team give their jersey to a teacher who has been important to them. I have been teaching at the school for 5 years an never gotten the honor before this past Friday. Needless to say, I was blown away! I even teared up a bit! It sounds cliche, but things like this remind me why I love teaching. Knowing that of all the teachers in our school, this young man thought I was the most important person to him is humbling! I am still in shock over it all.

So, I also decided to take my dog with me to the game. She had a blast! Thankfully, she is great with large groups of people and lots of kids. The noises and chaos didn’t bother her at all. She loved all the kids playing with her. Being able to take her places with me makes it easier for me to leave the house. If it weren’t for being able to take her, I would probably never leave unless it was to go to work, then come straight home!

October is a crazy month at work. I have to be at the school 6 days a week all month (Saturdays are filled this month with teaching a test prep class, administering the ACT, and open house). I’m also falling super behind in my reading! I think being in Italy put me behind because I didn’t have as much time as normal to read. I mean, it was Italy. I had to shop and have gelato! So, I am frantically playing catch up with my scheduled book reviews! Does this happen to anyone else? How do you manage it when you get behind? I have never in my 1.5 years of blogging missed a scheduled deadline and I don’t think I would ever tell a PR company I needed more time. So, it looks like I will be staying up VERY late!

I will be staying up late because the books I have scheduled for this week are books I have been DYING to read!!! Down Shift, Honor, Sweet Haven, and Royally Screwed have been on the top of my ‘Can’t Wait’ list! No sleep for me! I have books to read, people! What books are on your ‘Can’t Wait’ list? (Cause, you know, I need to add more books to my list….hahaha!)

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Aww that was really sweet of your students to honor you like that! That story made me smile. I’m behind on reading too, but I don’t let it get to me. I do very few blog tours, so it makes everything less stressful and more enjoyable for me now. I hope you can catch up soon!
Happy reading and enjoy your new books this week! 🙂

  2. That’s neat about homecoming! Congrats cause that’s quite an honor! It was Homecoming week here too and it was pretty good although the temps dropped and everyone about froze for the Homecoming game. I’ll bet your dog loved the game and the kids probably loved seeing your dog! How fun.

Hope your reading is good this week.

  3. Congratulations on getting the jersey. I would love to know where the kid is and what he’s doing twenty years from now, when he remembers how much you influenced him.

  4. That is so sweet with your student! I think I would have teared up as well 😀 I’ve been there with the scheduled books. Last year we had a really bad year with deaths in our family and I struggled to keep up. It got to the point that I was literally staying up till 2 and 3 in the morning to finish them in time. Hope you find a way to catch up. I’m still trying 😀 Hope you have a great week and enjoy your new reads!

  5. How awesome that you received the jersey. I’m struggling to get everything reviewed for the rest of this month and next as I usually do some traveling closer to the holidays. Enjoy all of those lovely new books!

  6. Congrats, That is awesome! What a wonderful feeling that must have been. I think I would have cried too 🙂

I have a few books I need to get to and I wish I could stay up late to read them but I have to get up so early and can’t function without a good 7 hours of sleep. I wish I was young again and could sleep for 3 hours and still be able to accomplish something the next day. lol

Have a great week, Samantha! Happy Reading! ox

  7. Oh how sweet! It is nice when life is kinda busy and you have books to look forward to. I don’t have much going on and I am not really looking forward to the books this week for some reason. Although, I did just read a great review for Fractured so I am gonna read that one next. Have a great week!

  8. That is sweet that a student gave you a jersey!! I would’ve been a bit teary eyed myself!
I’m behind on reading too… it happens from time to time. But a trip to Italy would’ve been worth it!

  9. That’s so sweet that he chose you for his jersey! You must’ve really made an impact on him 🙂 I can definitely see why you’d be teary eyed!

I don’t get a lot of books that have strict deadlines. Occasionally I’ve had to read a book when I didn’t really feel like it or something, but I’ve only ever participated in one blog tour, and other times I’ve had deadlines, they were far enough away that I was able to get to the book. But don’t kill yourself just to read the books! Prioritize which ones are more important to meet on time and go from there 🙂

  10. Omg That’s the sweetest thing! I’ve never heard of football players to give their teachers their jerseys so that sounds wonderful. I would have teared up too.
I’m behind on reading but it’s because I’m procrastinating a lot! This week I’m hoping to pick myself up, stop watching Netflix and start doing blog stuff.
I hope you have a good week!
