Non-Bookish News:

Mr. Book Disciple and I celebrated 14 years of marriage on Wednesday! I can’t believe it (mostly because it makes me feel old to have been married that long!). He surprised me by getting off work early and bringing home steak and potatoes!

My students start state testing next week. Its always stressful for everyone. Its all on their iPads, so it adds the stress of technology as well! But, the test we are taking this year is much shorter (only 40 min per test)! Last year it was 90 min per test; my kids that get extra time had 135 min! They would miss 3 classes. It was awful. Plus, there were more tests with the previous assessment we used, so they had to do the 135 min test 7 different times! It was nuts. Now, there are only 4 tests. And, they don’t have to take them all the same year. My juniors are taking 1 next week, and 1 on May 1st, then they are done. The sophomores have 2 to take this year, and the Freshmen have 1. Its been so much nicer to not have to come up with ‘testing schedules’ and disrupt entire weeks of teaching. Plus, the kids get their scores back super fast (like within a week) which is great for them.

Thats pretty much all thats going on here. We have 5 weeks of school left, then I leave for Jamaica on June 4th. I have a meeting with the students I am chaperoning coming up as well. They are a sweet group of kids I am excited to spend some time with. 2 of them were with me in Europe last summer.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Happy Anniversary to you and you husband. 14 years is great! The school testing sounds like a nightmare though, hope it will go smoothly. *fingers crossed* Tennessee’s testing was a disaster, they had to reschedule due to hacking or soomethung. Second year in a row, makes me so happy my kids didn’t have testing this year. Enjoy all your new books.

  2. Happy Anniversary! We celebrate 13 years on the 24th 🙂 I know what you mean about it feeling like we must be getting old! I remember thinking 5 years was a long time lol!

Good luck with the school testing. I’m so glad to hear they’ve simplified it so much for you. Testing is such a pain and technology in the mix just makes it worse :/ Have a great week and I’ll cross my fingers it’s all smooth for you!

  3. Congratulations on 14 years! That is no small feat. I really enjoyed the Allure books. Hope you like it. I left teaching right before they went from the HSPA to the PARCC testing, which was all computer based. I know it was problematic in the beginning, because technology doesn’t always cooperate. I hope it goes smoothly for you.

  4. Happy anniversary, Samantha! Steak and potatoes is an excellent way to celebrate. 🙂 Hope you enjoyed Midnight Rescue, I loved that series! Have a great week! 🙂

  5. Congrats on your anniversary! And wow that testing sounds intense- it’s nice though that they broke it up a little bit and they don’t have to take as many. the thought of weeks of instruction being interrupted does sound frustrating and counter-productive.

I can’t believe how fast this school year flew by, and that it’s almost over!

  6. Congrats on 14 years! That’s so great. I love celebrating my anniversary… it’s right up there with Christmas for me. 🙂 Mine is on May 1, so just around the corner. We always try to plan a trip around our anniversary so I’ll be kicking back poolside with a fruity drink when May 1 rolls around. Not a bad way to celebrate. LOL Fingers crossed that testing goes smoothly!

  7. Happy anniversary, that was so sweet that your husband was able to surprise you with steak and potatoes! And Jamaica sounds like a wonderful place to be visiting! Have a great week 🙂
