Happy mother’s day to all the moms out there! Every year, I mention how my mom is a huge reader like me and how her and my dad have always been readers. Friday my mom texts me because she found those adorable scarfs from storiarts and wanted to buy me one (she doesn’t wear scarfs). I love that my mom and I have similar interests!

How is quarantine going for you all? This week in Ohio we are starting to open stuff up again. By May 15th, salons can open. By May 21st normal dining can resume. By June I can see my audiologist to get new hearing aids! Woohoo! I’m not planning on going out and doing any thing. I have never been one who enjoyed going out anyway. But, I also don’t want to get sick. I’m a teacher-I have been exposed to every crazy illness under the sun and for once, I want one to just pass me by. I’ve earned it.

In addition to announcing the opening of businesses, the governor also announced 300 million dollars in budget cuts to education. That is just for the rest of this fiscal year. There will be more. I hope everyone has enjoyed homeschooling their kids, because with these types of budget cuts, schools won’t be able to operate. Also, it is giving me flashbacks to 2007 when the economy sucked and I had just graduated. I was trying to find a job in a TERRIBLE job market. So yeah, my anxiety has been high. I remember back then there were teachers with 10 years experience who were rifted. The low man on the totem pole had 10 years experience. A new graduate like me didn’t have a chance. Now is starting to feel like then all over again. The stress level is real. Several people I know have already been told there is no position for them next year. And seeing how I just accepted a new job, I’m the newbie who will be let go first if it comes to that. So, yeah, thats my life right now!

I have been loving podcasts where actors from some of my favorite shows host a behind the scenes recap type show. I have been listening to Office Ladies (with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey from the Office) and Fake Doctors Real Friends (with Donald Faison and Zach Braff from Scrubs). If you enjoyed either show, you should check these out. Its hilarious! Both have had guest stars on the podcast from their shows, so it’s even more fun. Normally I listen to true crime podcasts. But I am totally caught up on those, and they only release 1 a week, so finding Office Ladies and Fake Doctors has been awesome.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. They didn’t open anything around here yet. We got our lock down extended another 30 days. I am totally ok with that since I don’t want to go out anyway. I would rather stay home and be safe. Even when stuff opens i still think I will stay home lol

I am obsessed at the moment with true crime podcasts and found a podcast about the dark side of hollywood which was so interesting, I am now listening to podcasts about the 1920’s which is really cool too.

I hope you have a great week, Samantha! Stay Safe and Happy Reading xx

  2. It is nice that you and your mom share some interests. I got back into reading, because of my daughter. We don’t tend to read the same books, but sometimes it happens, and I love talking about it with her. That some serious budge cuts! Curious to where they cut.

  3. Wow, such a huge cut to Education! I hope your situation works out. I know, I’m on the job market at the worst possible time. I just applied to an educational technology specialist position and I’m hoping despite budget cuts they’re really going to need that job under the current climate.

We’re already at phase 2 here in Texas and I’m not happy about it. It’s moving forward in complete disregard for the numbers that are continuing to rise ?. We’ll be staying home for a while yet and hopefully the haste doesn’t screw us all over.

Have a great week and stay safe!

  4. The waht???? 300 millions cut in school budget? But that’s awful! Samantha I hope that despite all this your new job will be amazing and that indeed the virus will spare you!

  5. “Is that Godzilla?” lol That made me snort. And the murder hornet thing too. What is wrong with this planet lol?????

I am so sorry to hear about the budget cuts. I don’t feel like we prioritize the right things in our society in a lot of ways, and I can only imagine how stressful this would be for teachers. Not to mention the job effects. Ugh.

Those podcasts do sound fun. 🙂

  6. Wow, that’s a lot of new reads! I hope you love all of them! Good luck in your state. Ours is reopening too and I honestly think it’s waaaayyy too soon. I guess we’ll see. Stay safe!

  7. My mom is a big reader, too. We don’t usually read the same things but sometimes we do and it’s always fun to discuss. Love those memes. Funny but true. Scary about those budget cuts! That’s a whole lot to cut. 🙁

  8. Happy MOTHERS DAY!!! Hope you had a beautiful day with your family. And those murder hornets they are coming for our honey and bees!!! Look at all those books, So many goodies. There has been so many good sales the past couple weeks, the kindle is packed with all the goodies. Hoping you love all of them.

  9. Laughed at the Godzilla picture, that is an accurate representation of the year so far.

It’s good that things are slowly reopening… sort of but I guess we’re all a little hesitant about it after being told to stay home for so long. Those budget cuts are crazy, though! We’ve already been told in the UK we’re in a recession like what happened a few years ago but we have also been told we should recover much quicker? I don’t know, the news always confuses me but I suppose we’re all in the same boat of waiting and seeing what happens. It’s scary stuff.

Hopefully, you have a good week and we get some better news this week rather than budget cuts.
