Non-Bookish News:

Ok, last week I was trying to decide if I should take the job at an all girls school or stay at my coed school. There were LOTS of things I considered. Seriously, this was a well thought out decision. Despite struggles at my current school, I decided to stay. I think that I can still do great things at my current school and work to change the things I am not happy about. Plus, I adore most of my coworkers. I was truly sad at the thought of not getting to work with them daily.

Friday was our last day of regular classes. This week we have exams, then graduation! I’m so ready to be on summer vacation. I am having surgery on my ear at the end of June, so I will be spending most of the time I’m off recovering. I am having a tympanoplasy- a surgery where they try to repair and rebuild my eardrum. Its fairly invasive and involves creating an incision behind the ear to peel the outer ear forward and then use cartilage to recreate the ear drum. The goal is to give me back 15 decibels of my natural hearing (that is considered success). I am a bit higher risk because of my chronic ear infections, but if I can go from 0 hearing in my left ear to at least 15 db, I will feel pretty good about that. The other option at this point was a BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) but I am not ready for that at this stage. I am 39- admitting I need an implant to hear is still a HARD pill to swallow.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Ha Samantha it is sometimes so hard to make a choice! I am happy you succeded in choosing what was best for you! And that surgery seems daunting but if it works I think indeed that you’ll have more comfort every day! Thinking of you for this last week ahead!

  2. I can imagine that it was a difficult choice, but it sounds like you made a thoughtful decision. I’m sure it was the right one. And ah, the surgery sounds nerve-wracking, but I am sending all my positive thoughts your way that it will be a success. Keep us updated on it all! <3

  3. I am glad you made the choice that worked best for you. I think you can do great things and I am glad you are happy with your choice.

Good luck with the surgery, I do hope they can help you. Looking forward to your updates on how it goes.

Have a great week, Samantha! Happy Reading! xx

  4. Never easy to make these sorts of decisions, but I love the fact that you want to stay at your current school and work to improve it.

I suppose they wouldn’t suggest such an invasive treatment for your hearing loss unless they thought it was worth it. I noticed my reduction in hearing a few years ago, had all the tests and unfortunately they can’t find the cause so I’ve been wearing aids ever since. I felt too young at 44 to need hearing aids so I understand your reluctance to get implants. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you, Samantha.

You’ve mentioned a heck of a lot of books in this post and I haven’t read a single one! Lol! I hope you have a great week and I look forward to reading your book reviews. x

  5. At least you decided to stay and make the best of a tough situation. It’s people like you fighting that hopefully can make a difference. I wish you the best <3 I really hope it brings on some changes
Also , eak surgery. Hope it goes well!
