Dennis stepped off the cage and blew out a long breath. ìShe doesnít know, does she?î
ìNo. Itís for the best. Ana thinks weíre planning how we move forward on this together.î
Over the last couple of weeks, the pieces of the puzzle had slowly been slotting into place, and more and more I was realizing it was something set into motion a long time ago.
ìIf shit goes south, I need to know youíll protect her. Even if it means getting her out of Chastity Falls. Sheíd never leave if I asked her to, sheís stubborn and she thinks weíre in this together.î
I hated lying to Ana, but it was better for her to draw her own conclusions than for me to admit that only one of us could walk away from thisóMarcus or me. It would crush her. I couldnít do it to her. To us.
ìYou know I will, but does it have to go down like this?î Dennisí Adamís apple bobbed and the desperation in his voice caught me off guard. ìIs there no other way? Maybe we could go to someone for help?î
Scrubbing a hand through my hair I leaned back against the lockers and said, ìThis is the only way. We both know it. This is exactly the way Marcus planned it.î
The door swung open and the rest of the team filed in. I threw Dennis a look that I hope conveyed my gratitude.
I owed him my life.
I just hoped I didnít have to pay up.
What I liked:
L.A. Cotton gives you everything you loved from the first two. Jackson and Ana are still dealing with the mob stuff. Braiden is still in the pen. Briony is still a huge bitch. This book gives you the cumulation to Jackson and Ana’s storyline. Will they escape the mob life? Will they break up for good? Will someone try to kill Ana again? Will someone figure out what Jackson is up to and kill him?
What I didn’t like:
Overall, this book was exactly what I wanted. However, I found myself wanting more from certain parts of the plot and less from other parts. You can tell that the L.A. Cotton is setting other characters up for their books and thats fine (more than fine because I will totally read them!), but it did make the book awkward at a few points for me because I was like “WTH?” I wanted more of just Ana and Jackson! Did it ruin the book for me? No, I still loved it! Just be aware going in that there will be more books coming that focus on different characters.
