Non-Bookish News:

So Saturday in the US is Veteran’s Day. My dad was a Marine, my uncle was a marine, my granddad was a pilot in the navy, and my best friend was a seaman in the navy for 4 years. I have had students go on to join the military after graduation as well, so I have a lot of respect for all military members and their families. My school’s principal is a retired marine and we do a Veteran’s day assembly every year where we invite former graduates who are veterans along with other local veterans to come in and have breakfast and talk to the students. They share some stories about what it was like to be in the military, how they joined, etc. Its a great assembly!

Saturday morning I taught the final follow up class for the students taking the HSPT test. While its nice to have the extra money, I am so over teaching this class!! However, the kids are great and I hope they all do well and get into the high school of their choice.

Parent teacher conferences were Thursday night. It makes for SUCH a long night. Teach all day, talk to parents all night. They all went fine though. As a special education teacher, I talk to parents pretty much all the time so sometimes conferences come around its like “oh hey! How are you?” and its very low key.

I had all kinds of issues with Jetpack this week. For some reason it was telling me I still had vault press installed even though I didn’t and it put a HUGE red banner across the top of my admin screen. It was making me crazy. I deleted Jetpack, banner still there. Finally after a day of exchanging emails with them, I got no where and contacted my host. She was able to delete the folder from somewhere deep inside my blog folders or whatever (I don’t understand the technical stuff!) and that God awful red banner went away. However, jetpack still kept telling me it couldn’t connect to my site. So, I just deleted the whole darn plugin. Ugh!

My mom ordered my birthday gift early (My birthday is December 2nd-write it down 🙂 ). So, I will have a new Kindle Oasis by November 22nd! They were already sold out so November 22nd is the earliest next ship date. I am so excited!!!!

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I use Jetpack and haven’t had issues. Wonder why you did. I’m checking mine right now to see if there is an update. Anyway, you sound like you’ve had one busy week. A Kindle Oasis!!!! Congrats! Happy reading girl, and I hope next week is a little calmer for you.

  2. Happy Veterans day and it’s nice that your school does that. Sorry to hear about the Jetpack thing- that does sound like a pain. Ugh. Congrats though on the Kindle Oasis. Sounds great!

  3. Enjoy your Kindle Oasis – I have e-reader envy 🙂 I just bought a new paperwhite earlier this year so I’ll have to wait awhile to upgrade again. I’m looking forward to the new Meghan March book – I’m planning on diving into the first book of the series later this week. Happy reading, Samantha!

  4. Ya for early birthday gifts. While we where on vacation I game my mother her birthday gift. She has her birthday at the end of Nov, so I thought she’d like to have her gift early. I like your book haul. Hope you enjoy all the new editions to your book shelfs. That’s great the HSPT test class is over and that parent teacher conferences all went well.

Let’s see what’s new: We where gone the first week and half of November on vacation. We went to Disney to celebrate my sons 6th birthday. We had both sets of grandparents with us and one set of great-grandparents. It was fun, but the days where long. I’m still having trouble adjusting from FL to CA time. My dog didn’t like being left at the boarders and she was so happy to see us when we got back.

  5. I gasped when I read about your Oasis. I want one so bad, but I have two perfectly good Kindles, and I am spending A LOT of money to try a treatment for my dry eye. That assembly sounds like it was awesome. It’s so nice that your school honors our vets. I was never a fan of conferences, because you really need to talk to a parent when the problem is actually happening, and all the parents who came for me, were the ones with the kids who didn’t need conferences.

  6. Looks like you’ve had a lot going on this week, I haven’t been around as much due to NaNo but I had similar issues with Jetpack a while back, it messed with a plug-in and I had to redo a whole bunch of stuff I’m kind of over it too TBH but too busy to remove it right now. Yay for Oasis!

  7. That’s great how your school recognizes Veterans Day and honors those who have served. I love hearing that. Glad the parent-teacher conferences went well. So cool on the new Oasis! Hope you’ll share your thoughts on it when you get it.
