I am a book hoarder for sure. I buy books by authors I love, or in series I have enjoyed. Then, some of them sit on the shelf, languishing unread. Why? There are several reasons, but I am going to share a few.
Book: Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare
I love Clare’s books. But, each time she starts a new series, I hesitate for a long time. I think its a bit of an apprehension-will this one live up to the hype? Also, I usually LOVE to listen to these on audio, but this time, it’s a narrator I am unfamiliar with so I haven’t attempted it. So yes, I have the audio version and a signed 1st edition hardback-both unread.
Book: Multiple books from the Black Dagger Brotherhood series
I gobbled up books 1-4, and have read several of the newer ones. I have many of the books in the middle, but I just haven’t made time to read them. Sometimes, there are just so many amazing new releases that I want to read NOW, my TBR doesn’t get touched. I keep saying I’m gonna change…but I know I won’t!
Book: The Argeneau series by Lyndsay Sands
So, I read part of one of the books and really didn’t like it. The heroine was in her 60’s and it was just weird for me. But, I have gotten several from publishers and in book boxes. Seriously, I have a bunch of them. But I just can’t get past my first attempt. This one is more of a hesitation because I just don’t know if I will like it. And, as I mentioned before, my TBR is neglected so I would be mad if I ended up trying to read another one only to dislike it as well!
Books: Pretty much every book I have gotten from Book of the Month
I picked the books because they sounded interesting. Why have I only read like 3 of them? I don’t know! I think it’s a combination of fear of the unknown, and fear of disliking it and wasting my precious reading time. Sigh.
The Argeneau series I enjoyed the earlier books. I’ve read up to book 23 and I’ve read the series in order. I have also re-read a few of my favorites. It is a long series and it feels daunting to pick it up now. I think you should start from the beginning if you do every try the series. The original family “Argeneau” that started the series are fun and I love the medaling mother who wants her kids to find The One.
Black Dagger Brotherhood – That series is also daunting. I enjoyed the original books up to book 7 or 8, but even with that I felt like their where too many plot threads and several never got finished. I read up to book 11 and haven’t been able to bring myself to read on. Even though I pre-ordered book 12. For some reason I’m done with the series.
Like you I’ve bought a lot of books that are part of a series I’m enjoying or liked and the books have sate on my self unread. I try to let some go, but I’m a hoarder of books too. Thank’s for sharing!
Most of the books I own I keep under the belief that I will read them, soon. Seeing as between physical, ebook and audio I’ve got over 100, soon is far from realistic, but that’s what I keep telling myself 😛
I’m also a book hoarder! For me, books sit around because I have too many books and not enough time. I’m excited for all of them, but I’m a very slow reader.
