Falling for someone can be dangerous, especially when someone wants to take them away from you. But what happens when fighting for the one you love could cost them their life?
For over two years, Summer Jacobs has tried to get her life back on track. A former nurse and now a prestigious restaurant owner, she’s living the dream just like her husband wanted. After watching him get killed in the MMA ring and almost losing her life herself, it left a scar on her soul. The thought of moving on scares her, but the local NFL star, Evan Townsend, is determined to catch her heart.
Forced to work with him and the football team, Summer succumbs to his relentless attempts at capturing her heart. He has the power to heal her, but there’s someone out there who wants to keep them apart. Even if it means getting rid of Evan permanently. Summer is being chased by hidden dangers and it’s up to Evan to catch her. The question is . . . will he get to her in time?

what i think

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Catching Summer! I haven’t read much from LP Dover except her PNR series. I enjoyed that but I was still hesitant to try this book. First, I am not a big fan of the death of a spouse trope. I think its so difficult to try and honor the dead spouse but still let the living spouse move on. Its really tough to do without it coming off as a bit cold or callous. However, Dover did a great job. I think that giving us an insight into the 2 years of therapy and pain Summer had gone through was important to allow me to believe in her relationship with Evan. I think it was also important that she had known Evan for years (he is her sisters best friends brother) so Evan knew exactly what Summer had been through. And Evan-super swoony! He was a perfect blend of a little alpha and a little beta. He wasn’t all neanderthal ish but he was dominate enough to be hot.  He and Summer addressed her dead husband directly and spoke freely about him and that helped me see the honesty and trust in their relationship.

The twist in the book comes in the form of a terrible car accident. I didn’t see the twist coming and I surly didn’t expect everything after! Good job keeping me guessing! I’m so glad I picked up this book. LP Dover has made me realize that the death of a spouse trope can work when its done perfectly-and she did an amazing job!
