My year in reading: 2021

Posted December 30, 2021 in Spotlight Tags:

I can’t believe 2021 has finally come to an end. I really thought the pandemic would be over but alas it feels like we are exactly where we were last year. However, I accomplished a half year of my schooling to become a school psychologist, and I am ready to leave teaching.

But, let’s talk about my 2021 in reading! I had a staggeringly low number of 5 star reads. Only 3 books I read in 2021 were 5 stars! Of those, only 1 was published in 2021.

My 5 Star Reads of 2021

  •   A Lady’s Formula for Love by Elizabeth Everett
  •   Conspiracy in Death by JD Robb
  •   Loyalty in Death by JD Robb

Elizabeth Everett was a new to me author and her book was SO GOOD! However, I did have a lot of 4.5 star reads in 2021.

My 4.5 Star Reads of 2021

  •   Conjugal Visits by Lani Lynn Vale
  •   Vengeance in Death by JD Robb
  •   Jailbait by Lani Lynn Vale
  •   Fortunate Son by Jay Crownover
  •   No Rep by Lani Lynn Vale
  •   Boyfriend by Sarina Bowen
  •   Window Shopping by Tessa Bailey
  •   Shakedown by Lani Lynn Vale
  •   The Dark Hours by Michael Connelly

My most read author of 2021 is JD Robb. I binged the entire In Death series this year (with the exception of Naked in Death which I read in December 2020). Honestly, that is how I got so many books read this year-I binged the audiobooks.

I did read every book Lani Lynn Vale published this year. I really do enjoy her stuff!

Overall, I read 129 books in 2021. I’m pleased with that considering I am a full time student with a full time job. For 2022, I will probably keep my goal at 100. I will still have full time school through the summer. I do need another audio series to binge, so hit me up with your recommendations for LONG series that are great on audio!

  1. I’d say you did very very well! As for long audio series there’s Karen Rose’s romantic suspense, we are doing Night Huntress world for the Read-along which is 16 total, For less romance focus, maybe Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden series (we are doing a Read-along of it in 2024 though), Robin Hobb’s the Elderlings, or several mystery series, Martha Grimes – Inspector Jury, Deborah Crombie – Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James, Sebastian St. Cry series by CS Harris, VI Warshawski by Sara Paretsky, Kinsey Milhone by Sue Grafton, any of the JA Jance series, or Margaret Maron. Hopefully there are some of those you haven’t read.

I love a good binge, too. I don’t do audio, I can’t think of any long series to recommend. I tend to read standalones and duets. Best of luck in the new year! Happy reading!

  3. I think covid will always be around, to be honest, it’s just going to become more manageable like the common cold. But I do think with the vaccine more available, that life will become more normalized.

I am glad that you are enjoying JD Robb as well. I have really enjoyed this author from what I have read from her so far. Love Roarke and Eve

  4. You may have read fewer 5 star reads but that sometimes happens. You still read a lot of good books. What commitment reading the In Death series though, there are so many! I have started that series but I got intimidated with so many books to read. Maybe I’ll try again as they are such easy books to get drawn into.
