The emotion in Let it be me is so amazing. The hurt, guilt, love…all of it is just so real. I could understand Ari’s actions and behaviors and you really do feel for her. Her love for her sister is so wonderful and what she is willing to endure to stay with her is so heartwarming.
Oh Canyon. He is just amazing. He is just as broken as Ari but he is picking up the pieces of his life and trying to move forward. He tries to help Ari, but he doesn’t let her walk all over him. It was really an interesting relationship because he wasn’t simply going to do everything for her. He wanted her to want better for herself and if she wasn’t willing to try, he was going to walk away. I think that is such a great character trait! He wasn’t a push over and he had enough going on in his own life without adding her drama if she was just going to keep pushing him away!
Sometimes I wanted the book to speed up a bit. Sometimes I wanted to smack Ari. Part of that comes from her simply being a teenager, so it didn’t bother me too much. This book is a classic example of YA/NA angst so if that isn’t your thing, you might not enjoy it as much as I did (I love me some angst!). Let it be me is a book I have passed on to my mom to read!
