Its a love story, baby just say yes!
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday from The Broke and The Bookish is all about music. So, I decided to do the 10 songs I think would make GREAT romance novels! Some of these would be songs for a good character back story, some would be more the main event, but no matter what, I wish authors would turn these into books!
Love Story by Taylor Swift
Sigh…This song. I used to listen to it on repeat! Like, a lot. I just think it would be perfect for a new adult romance. It gives the Romeo and Juliet story a bit of spin and I love retellings.

Timber by Pitbull and Ke$ha
I have so much love for this song. Its really a bit of a one night stand kind of song, but I think it could be a story that starts as a one night stand and turns into more!

If I had a million dollars by Bare Naked Ladies
This song is just adorable. He is telling someone all thing things he would buy her with a million dollars. What makes it adorable is that he lists things like ‘fancy ketchup’ and other random items. Its just a sweet song about a guy who wishes he could give a girl better things in their daily life.

Two is better than one by Boys Like Girls and Taylor Swift
Ok, this is my 2nd T swift song so if you haven’t figured it out already, I am kind of in love with her! She did this duet with Boys Like Girls and its amazing. Its about about finding the person that you want to spend your life with. I mean, its basically already a romance novel!
“So maybe it’s true, that I can’t live without you. Well maybe two is better than one. There’s so much time, to figure out the rest of my life. And you’ve already got me coming undone. And I’m thinking two, is better than one”
Blown Away by Carrie Underwood
Oh this one is TRAGIC. Its another song I think would make a good back story for a character that we meet when she is an adult. Basically, her mom is dead and her dad is abusive. She lets him die in a tornado instead of waking him up to go to the shelter with her. Its such a great song!

(Kissed You) Good Night by Gloriana
Here is another song I fully admit to listening to on repeat! Its a song about a first date and its major swoon worthy! It would be perfect for a romance novel because the guy and girl are both a bit shy but he makes the grand gesture and its HOT.

Drunk on a Plane by Dierks Bentley
If you haven’t heard this song, you have to listen to it. Its a break up song that would be another great start to a romance novel. Maybe he meets a new love interest on the plane!?
‘We had this date marked on the calendar forever. We’d take that new wed limo airport ride together. I feel like a plastic groom alone there at the top of the cake. So hey, I’m getting drunk on a plane.”
Royals by Lorde
I think this one would make a good YA friendship story. Teenagers who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks trying to make the best life they can for themselves without bowing to the pressure of having all the ‘it’ items in life!

Disaster Road by NEEDTOBREATHE
I found this book because it was listed as a part of the playlist an author created. I cannot for the LIFE of me remember which book it was but I am so glad I listed to it. It could be a great anthem for a tortured hero!

You and I by One Direction
Yeah, thats right, I picked a One Direction song! And its awesome! Its about fighting for your love even when things aren’t perfect or you seem like total opposites.

It’s so great to see Bare Naked Lades mentioned. They are a great band and I really miss some of their old stuff. This song, along with many of their others, would make great books. Thanks for sharing your wonderful list!

Yes, Taylor swifts songs really are perfect for books! Angsty, love driven ballads would make perfect NA books!
You picked out so many fun songs! I’ve always wondered about the song Love Story by Taylor Swift and if it’d be a good match up for either Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles or Prince of Shadows by Rachel Caine. They are both a Romeo & Juliet retelling, but I haven’t read them yet. And YES to Drunk on a Plane by Dierks Bentley! That would be an awesome book!
