Non-Bookish News:

I want to thank all current and former service men and women for their service. As Americans, we set aside a day to memorialize those who made the ultimate sacrifice, but really, I am amazing and humbled by all people who choose to join the service, and those who support people who join the service. My grandfather was in the Navy, my dad and uncle were in the Marines, 2 close high school friends joined the Army reserve right after graduation, and my college best friend was in the Navy. I have so much love and respect for them and am awed by their willingness to give their life for our country. So, thank you service men and women and your families.

Friday was the last normal school day. Tuesday and Wednesday my students have exams, then Thursday is graduation mass and awards, then Friday is graduation. So, this week should be fairly low stress for me as we wind down. That means I will be cleaning my office, finishing paperwork, and doing other mundane tasks.

We closed on our house 1 year ago this past Friday. I came home from work on Friday to find our AC unit stopped working. Sigh. It seems to coincidental to even be true; its like a bad verse in that horrible unironic Alanis Morsette song you know. Of course, now is not the time I can afford a new AC unit. We leave for Europe in 3 weeks!

I got food poisoning last week. It was awful! I was so miserable! The only good thing about food poisoning is it doesn’t last too long. Within 20 hours, I felt totally normal again. But those 20 hours…horrible! We determined it had to be the lettuce I used to make my salad that day. It was the only thing I ate that no one else did (since no one else was sick). So, a salad tried to kill me. A doughnut has never tried to kill me…I’m just saying…

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Sounds like a mixed bag sort of week. I’m sorry to hear about the AC Unit and the food poisoning. Neither sounds fun at all.
But yay for all the amazing romance books and school being out soon!
I hope you love all your reads this week. 🙂

    • Yes, I think the books and the near end of school far outweighs the food poisoning and lack of AC. I am totally counting this week as a win!

  2. So sorry to hear about the food poisoning – I also once was very ill after eating lettuce. It’s apparently more common than we think – but that makes sense as we don’t cook it, so it is really important it doesn’t pick up any nasty bugs. I hope you feel 100% soon – that kind of illness always leaves you so washed out, doesn’t it? I don’t suppose it is help by having no air conditioning – not an issue for us in cool old UK. I hope this coming week really is a stress-free one at school – and it’s always great to look forward to the summer break. By contrast, this week is our half term holiday week as we finish far later than you do. Have a great reading week:).

    • I grew up without AC so you would think I would be used to it, but alas no. Thankfully though its not terribly hot here yet. Its pretty overcast today too which helps keep it cool. My school doesn’t have AC so we have to wrap up now or we would melt in the building by the end of June!

  3. Happy Memorial Day!

No 5 stars last week? I’m actually looking forward to your five star reviews. I love your recommendations. Can’t wait to read Until It Fades. I’ve preordered it. I can’t wait for Salvaged and Stay!! Looking forward to your reviews.

Sorry to hear about the food poisoning and the AC unit, hon.

I hope you have a wonderful week.

  4. Oh, I hate food poisoning! My daughter and I got it at the same time after eating at a restaurant we love…we can’t go back now! LOL.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

    • Yes, I think produce seems like a really likely cause of lots of food poisoning but so often we only hear about it coming from meat! I feel that way about several restaurants that I have gotten sick of after eating there. Even if I don’t think it was something I had there, I can’t stop my brain from associating it with that place!

  5. What a great book haul! i also got that KA Tucker book, I am looking forward to reading it :). Sorry to hear about your AC breaking down the food poisoning. I only have had mild cases of food poisoning and luckily it never last long, but the time it does last are horrible. Have a great week!

  6. Oh no, I’m sorry about the broken AC and the food poisoning. That does sound awful. Glad you’re feeling better now at least!

Yay, glad this will be a low stress week for you 🙂 Enjoy the final school days and all your new books!

  7. Such a bummer about the AC. And food poisoning sure is no picnic. Happy to hear you’re all better now. And what a great haul of new reads. Some of my favorite authors too! There goes my book budget. LOL

  8. YA, School is almost out. Enjoy the last few days and then you are off on your vacation and then 3 weeks for Europe. Glad you are feeling better. Never fun to be sick or have food poisoning.

Lots of pretty ARC’s you got and I’m excited for several new releases this week. Happy Reading!

  9. My AC went out last year and it was several thousand to replace, sigh. Hoping you don’t have to go that route. Everything is so ridiculously expensive! We just had a window unit growing up so not sure why I can’t seem to function now without central air lol, must be I could tolerate it better as a kid?? Who knows.

LOL about salad vs doughnuts! That is true isn’t it??? Hmm…

  10. What a wonderful tribute to our armed forces! There are a lot of people in my family who have been or are in the military, and I have always held a special place in my heart for people willing to go into the service. I hope you have a nice week! It sounds like it will be low key, which is good after the end of the year rush you’ve had to endure. I was sorry to hear about your AC and the food poisoning. Hopefully your weather isn’t terribly hot right now. I remember the year ours crapped out on us–in the middle of a bad heatwave. It was a nightmare.

I hope you have a great week, Samantha!

  11. I agree that we have to be very thankful for our soldiers! I always try to be. So please thanks all those awesome gents in your life for me! Ugh for food poisoning and no AC but Yay for being back to normal, fairly low stress week and minus 3 weeks to Europe! Just stay away from any salad related item please. 🙂

  12. Oh, sorry about the food poisoning. Glad it didn’t last long and LOL on the donut statement. No truer words have been spoken.

Your trip is coming up soon! How exciting. 🙂

  13. Ahh! You got Lord of Shadows! I got that too but I can’t decide if I’m going to reread Lady Midnight before this one… I think I must… Eep.

Hope you have a lovely memorial day. I’m in awe of any member of a military family and boy – you have a lot of people serving in your family.

Hope you are having the low stress week you were looking forward to and I”m sorry to hear about the food poisoning!

  14. Cool, going to Europe? It’s great that you felt good real fast as well. You know, over here in my country nobody even HAS air conditioning somehow 🙂 well, at least it doesn’t break, right? 😀
