Whew we are finally coming to the end of January. This month has been epically long. Not necessarily bad or anything, but long. The cold is finally lifting here and we are up to the 40’s, which means the snow is melting. That means the mud is beginning. My dogs manage to pick up so much mud every time they go outside. Its frustrating for sure. We might even get up to 50 degrees next week.

Things are really picking up at work. Its “IEP season” meaning every student who has an IEP is due for renewal. Some years it hits harder than others. My part, the evaluation, only has to be done every 3 years, so every 3 years the student gets a new evaluation and an IEP (if they still qualify). I will be in Seattle for the 3rd week in February, so we are really packing in a lot in the next 3 weeks. IEP due dates are NOT negotiable-they don’t care if you had snow days, death in the family, or an act of God disaster. That IEP due date is immovable. So, anything due the week I will be out has to be done before.

My husband is out of town this weekend so its just me and the dogs. That means we binge watch whatever I want, read lots of books, and do chores. Spoiler alert-that is what we do when he is here too. The dogs weren’t really bothered he wasn’t here last night. That bodes well for him the week I am gone. They are kind of more my dogs, so I worry they will be stinkers for him. I’m also just a worrier and think of all the things that could go wrong. I don’t like not being in charge of things or in control. I know my husband will take care of them, but I feel like he won’t do as good a job as me. It’s crazy to think that, but that is anxiety for you!

I met with my new primary care physician. I really like her. At 45, I needed a primary care physician. I have an endocrinologist, gynecologist, gastroenterologist, ENT, audiologist, and a psychiatrist. So, now I finally have a primary care doctor. We talked about switching up some of my meds (because they REALLY upset my stomach) and talking about colon cancer screening (because I’m at that age now). Getting old is WAY more complex that I was prepared for. I expected the aches, pains, and such, but having 10 doctors and needing to be screened for everything it very time consuming! I’m lucky to have the opportunity to get good health care, and hope that doesn’t change with our new, terrifying government.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Yeah, I’ve been seeing all the lists of teachers being out of classes because I know they are going to IEP meetings! That’s one thing as a librarian I haven’t had to do anymore. But I do schedule the library conference room for those meetings or for testing, etc. All the doctors we now have. I am supposed to see a neurologist and originally the soonest they could get me in when I made my appointment last fall was this coming August. I got a call this past week saying they have a new doctor in their office, so I need to call and see if I can get a sooner appointment. I hope you have a good week!

  2. Glad you like your new primary care physician – it’s vital that you like and trust the people treating you, I think. And while the warmer temperatures must be welcome – you have my sympathy regarding the mud! I agree that January seems to have stretched on FOREVER. I’m really hoping February zips by a lot faster. Have a great week, Samantha.
