Nothing!

Who knows? Maybe something after Wednesday…

I have 15 hours of professional development left! That’s just 5 hours a day (including today-so if I don’t reply or comment quick, you know why). It has consumed my time this past week honestly. I haven’t gotten much reading done.

Also, when I’m home on breaks, the dogs want to go outside every hour or so. Since its warm out, they want to stay outside. So every 60-75 minutes, one of them literally climbs on me and refuses to leave me alone until I let them all out for a bit. Then the clock starts over. My husband pretty much stops helping when I’m off for the summer, so even when he comes home, its still all on me. With trying to get all the PD hours in, its very frustrating. But, all my PD has to be done by Wednesday at 10 am, so hopefully things will get better.

Anyone who works in education knows that summers are often filled with all things you neglected during the school year and for me, that is doctor appointments. I have one this week, one next week, and a few more to schedule. The up side is I will actually have to start and drive my car a little so it doesn’t die from sitting in my garage for weeks on end.

I mowed the yard for the first time in my life. As a kid, my allergies were dangerous, so mowing always was my brothers job and I had inside chores. Then I lived in dorms and apartments. I didn’t buy a house until I was married. But, its summer, and as I said, my husband pretty much stops doing everything in the summer because I’m home all day. The yard was totally out of control. So, I got online and found videos about how to work the mower (its a riding mower), and spent some time figuring it out. Then, I grabbed my inhaler, put on a mask, and mowed the yard! I did a TERRIBLE job-I missed a couple small patches and I had to plan going into it as to where to start and where to go. But, I did it! I came inside and took a shower right away, and I only had to use my inhaler once. Its the height of grass pollen season here and grass is one of my biggest allergens, so only using the inhaler once was a big win! I’m add it to my list of “things I can handle myself”. Next up, I have to figure out how to clean the gutters.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I am also a grass pollen sufferer so I didn’t mow until I was an adult. I take allegra and don’t need a mask or anything now. I do have a recommendation for the gutter. I was cleaning or having mine cleaned like 2-3 times a year. A year ago I put these foam pieces from the hardware store into the gutters. They are like pool noodles only more boxy. The foam lets the water through but the leaves and twigs blow off. It’s worked great. No more gutter cleaning! They were inexpensive and you can cut them for the right length. .

  2. I also never really mowed other than once or twice in my very first house, and then I got someone else to do it for me. Then I moved to a townhome that had maintenance provided. When I moved to my current house I had to learn to mow myself. I hated it at first, but I’m kind of used to it and don’t mind as much these days, it’s my exercise. But I look forward to a day when I can move into an apartment and not deal with any of it again. My dogs are the same, they seem to be able to hold it all day in their cage when I’m at work, but if I’m home they want to go out like every hour. And earlier this week it was nice and cool and I didn’t mind sitting outside for a bit with them. But the heat is coming in this week, so not enjoying it anymore. Hope you get your PD done quickly and easily!

  3. Good for you trying out mowing and figuring out how to make it work. I can mow if I need to but I prefer to weed a garden. LOL Sometimes we need to step up when it matters. So bravo. Hope your able to find some time to read soon once things with the PD calm down for you.
