Is it love, or is she just his good luck charm? New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting absolutely delights with this witty and fun standalone contemporary romance.
Lilah isn't sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career, or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she's no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.
Ethan Kane wants his glory days back. And that includes having Lilah by his side. With her, he was magic. They were magic. All he has to do is make her see that.
Just when Lilah might finally be ready to let him in, though, she finds out their reunion has nothing to do with her and everything to do with his game. But Ethan's already lost her once, and even if it costs him his career, he'll do anything to keep from losing her again.
Lilah could use a Good Luck Charm for sure! Her husband of 6 years is filing for divorce and her ex boyfriend/best friend just waltzed back into town. On top of that, the man she views as a father figure had a stroke and she might lose him too. Ethan (the exboyfriend) wants Lilah back. He thinks having her in his life again will give him back his hockey playing mojo. Just what every girl wants right? To be wanted as a good luck charm and not for love.
Lilah was a really likable character. I felt sympathy for her! She is a nurse who wants to get her masters in nursing. She is in a field dedicated to helping and she wants to help more! Her marriage fell apart and she is facing her first love after he abandoned her. I wanted to just hug her and keep her safe! I totally agreed with her inability to trust Ethan. How could she trust him after he bailed on her for hockey?
Ethan does realize the mistake he made in leaving Lilah. He does grovel pretty well and as much as I wanted to dislike him for his poor choices in the past, I found it was hard to hold on to that anger. Second chance romances are always tough for me-I find that sometimes I can’t get past why they broke up in the first place. Personally, I get so invested and feel that one of the characters was so wronged, I can’t forgive the other character. But, this second chance worked. Partly because Ethan is a likable guy, partly because Lilah was able to forgive him (but not so quickly it made me roll my eyes), and partly because Hunting is just a good author. While The Good Luck Charm will tug at your heart and isn’t totally angst free, it is pretty light overall and I loved that. I was not looking for an angst fest! This story balanced drama and levity very well!

Getting Schooled by Emma Chase, I think I love you by Lauren Layne, Embracing Her Heart by Melissa Foster…then you will probably like The Good Luck Charm!
Ooh, thanks for the review. I’ve been reading a lot of differing reviews so I’m glad to be reading a wide variety of thoughts on this one. I’m really curious about it so I’m looking forward to diving into this one. Great review!
I love second chance romances. There’s just something about all that history. Glad to hear the angst is light, because I am not a big fan of the angsty books.
