Throwback Thursday: The Sookie Stackhouse series

Posted April 12, 2018 in review Tags:

The Sookie Stackhouse series was one I read long before I blogged. I had read Twilight and enjoyed it, and a friend asked me if I had read Dead Until Dark. I picked it up and promptly devoured all the released books. Waiting for new books in the series was excruciating!

I loved Sookie’s story and the incredibly unique world Charlaine Harris created in Bon Temps! The supporting characters were great as well. Now, if you only watched the TV show, you have no idea what really happened in the books. Season 1 was pretty close to the books, but after that, the only thing that was similar were the names of some of the characters.

I loved how Harris created a world where vampires were known yet still unknown in so many ways. Shifters were still in the shadows, and magic exists. She does a great job at making Louisiana an important character in the story too! If you liked Twilight, but want something more adult, this series is perfect!! If you liked the TV show, seriously, read the books. The show wasn’t bad. But it is NOTHING like the books. Harris even wrote a follow up novella that gives us the details on what everyone from the books was up to years down the road. It was so amazing! I wasn’t ready to let the town of Bon Temps go, so getting that update novella was bliss!

Authors like Nalini Singh, JR Ward, Kim Harrison, Laurell K Hamilton…then you will probably like Sookie Stackhouse series!

  1. I never really got into the Sookie Stackhouse series. I haven’t read a single book and I watched only a few episodes of Tru Blood… At the time when vampires were a thing, I wasn’t really into it. The only vampire series I read is the Night Huntress books by Jeaniene Frost, including the spin-offs. 🙂 Have you read the series before?
