She’s the light from his past.
He’s the one her heart has always longed for.
Trained by the best, Christopher Walker has fought hard for his country and even harder to forget the only girl he’s ever loved. He spent countless nights submerged in death and destruction only to find himself clinging to the memories of her when the darkness crept in.
When her life is threatened, Christopher will stop at nothing to protect her. Even if it means having to confront his past.
Alissa Malone never thought she would find herself face-to-face again with the only boy she’s ever loved. But she soon realizes Christopher is not the same man he once was.
His touch is still electrifying—his voice still earth shattering. But there’s a darkness about him that wasn’t there before. A pain he harbors so deep that she can feel it all the way to her soul.
One fateful moment destroyed his very existence, and only one person will be able to make him realize that what he considers an act of dishonor was truly an act of courage.

This is Book Four in the Acts Of Honor series, the spin-off series to Men Of Honor. It is not necessary to read all of the other books in the series. However, I do highly recommend that you at least read Resisting Temptation, the third book in the Men of Honor series, since this is where these Characters story began.
An Act of Courage is Christopher and Alissa’s story and its emotional and HOT! Told in alternating POV with flashbacks as well as present day, you get to glimpse their original love story from high school, as well as where they are now, 5 years after high school. Christopher was a Navy SEAL and his best friend died overseas. You know that this event has caused Christopher a lot of trauma and pain and a severe amount of guilt. However, you don’t get the story of what happened until near the end of the book. You get glimpses into his life in the Navy with his best friend before he died, and even in those glimpses, Billy was a great character. Getting to know him and knowing how his story ends was tough!
Alissa is a sweet, southern girl. She comes from a well off family and her and Christopher are very different. But, that doesn’t stop Alissa from pushing her way into his life. She is heartbroken when he dumps her and takes off to the Navy, but she picks herself up, gets a BN in nursing, then decides to work in Africa for a bit before going to medical school. Then she is kidnapped. This is the catalyst that thrusts her and Christopher back into each others lives, and you see the love that still exists, but the same struggles are still there. Alissa is impossible not to like-she isn’t snotty and pretentious like her mom and stepdad, she is supportive, smart, and loving. And now, someone wants her dead.
I was surprised at the suspense aspect of the story. I expected the story to focus more on Christopher’s past and his attempts to overcome his demons and win Alissa back. But, the threats to Alissa add some suspense to the story and I think serve to push these two back into each others’ lives more quickly. And these two pick up sexually right where they left off. Its a very steamy read. I will say this is high on the angst scale so make sure you are in the right head space for an angsty read!
My favorite part? The kids!!! Gah!! So cute!

Until Jax by Aurora Rose Reynolds, The Corps Security series by Harper Sloan, Charlie Foxtrot by Lani Lynn Vale…then you will probably like An Act of Courage!
An Act of Courage
The Men of Honor series is the original series; we meet Christopher in book 3
The Acts of Honor books are all stand alones!
This sounds very good. But I’m afraid about the angst, though. Is it a good angst or a bad one? I mean, is there a love triangle or something?
No love triangle! I hate those! The angst comes from the PTSD that Christopher is suffering and causing him to push Alissa away!
