Cold Hearted was my first Anderson book, but I plan to read the previous books in the series. I love romantic suspense but find that it often struggles to find a good balance between the 2. Sometimes you get a story with great suspense, but the romance is weak or unbelievable. Then sometimes you get a great romance, but the suspense is lame. Anderson hit a great mix with Cold Hearted and I applaud her for it!
Darsh is an FBI agent called in to a small town in upstate NY to help with a serial rape case. Erin was the detective who put a suspect in jail for the rapes. That suspect? The local college quarterback that was beloved. Now, the town hates Erin and suddenly more rapes/murders occur. Erin is worried she put an innocent kid in prison and that the killer is still out there. Darsh and Erin had a 1 night stand years before and he was NOT kind to her in the aftermath. Erin has a really sad backstory that makes her interactions with Darsh more believable. I thought that both characters had really well written backstories. Darsh has family issues but also brings a bit of racial issues up as well since he is of Indian descent. And while Darsh and Erin are working out their issues and dealing with their attraction, they are both trying to figure out if Erin has made a huge mistake in solving the previous crime. Honestly, I had a list of suspects in my head and there were times when I was sure it was person x, but then 3 pages later, I wasn’t sure any more. Cold Hearted kept me guessing right up until the end. And I really loved the relationship between Darsh and Erin-it was well written, believable, and mature.

This sounds really good, Samantha! I like that the guy is of Indian Descent too. You don’t see that a lot in romance novels. I also really like the secret relationship trope. I’ll have to check this author and this series out.

It really was! I was glad to have some diversity and not just a character who was diverse but they actually address the issues he experiences! And the mystery is good!! I totally am going to read all the books in this series!
