His estate is saddled with debt, and the late earl's three innocent sisters are still occupying the house . . . along with Kathleen, Lady Trenear, a beautiful young widow whose sharp wit and determination are a match for Devon's own.
A clash of wills . . .
Kathleen knows better than to trust a ruthless scoundrel like Devon. But the fiery attraction between them is impossible to deny—and from the first moment Devon holds her in his arms, he vows to do whatever it takes to possess her. As Kathleen finds herself yielding to his skillfully erotic seduction, only one question remains:
Can she keep from surrendering her heart to the most dangerous man she's ever known?
Cold Hearted Rake
So, I will start this review with a confession. I had never, prior to this book, read anything by Lisa Kleypas. In fact, in the interest of full disclosure, I had never even heard of her. Thankfully, Nick at The Girl with the Happily Ever Afters schooled me! She has raved so much about Kleypas that I simply had to check it out. Her review of Marrying Winterborne is what made me decide on starting the series. My point: Thank God Nick told me how awesome Kleypas is!
So, Cold Hearted Rake is the story of recently widowed Kathleen, who was married (for 3 days) to Theo Ravenel, the earl of Trenear. He died and the earldom transferred to his cousin, Devon Ravenel. Oh Devon…He and his brother West were playboys to say the least. They wanted nothing challenging from life and inheriting an estate was CHALLENGING. They go to the estate with plans to sell, but Kathleen is not having it. She is feisty!
Then, you throw in Theo’s 3 younger sisters and you have a seriously awesome cast of characters! The twins, Cassandra and Pandora, are a hoot! Helen is one of those truly gentle and sweet people in a world seriously lacking gentle and sweet. You know-the kind of people you wish existed more often!
But, this is the story of Kathleen and Devon. Kathleen didn’t have quite the conventional life and marriage and she is struggling with everything but determined to do whatever she can for herself and more importantly, her sisters-in-law, whom she has come to love. The Ravenels are not easy to get along with and Devon and Kathleen butt heads a LOT. I loved every minute of it! Seriously, the banter is on point!
If you like your historical romances to be filled with ladies who are complex, men who are soon to be converted rakes, and a cast of supporting characters you can’t wait to find out more about, you need this book.
In conclusion, thanks Nick! You were totally right!
