From the moment Lev Leokov spots the young woman hiding behind her hair in the middle of the gentleman's club, he can't take his eyes off of her.For the very first time in his life, he is affected. Having been told his entire life that he can't process or understand emotion, he considers it a big deal.
When Mina Harris gets caught red-handed with a wallet that isn't hers, she falls apart. She's tired, lonely and hasn't eaten in days.
Lev offers her an ultimatum... A nice warm bed, a hot meal and a job, or the cops.
Mina takes her chances with Lev. After all, a person with nothing has nothing left to lose.
***This book enters the world of the extended Leokov family which are introduced in Friend-Zoned, however, is unrelated... release date TBA**
So I finally decided to REALLY do COYER this year. I wasn’t making a list or anything. I was just actively choosing to not sign up for reviews so that I had a more open calendar. And because of that decision, I finally read Lev. I’m pissed I didn’t read it soon.
Lev is written almost as a person with ASD-doesn’t understand or read emotions, has trouble with social situations, struggles with sarcasm, body language, deviation from schedules, etc. However, there are events in his past that also shaped him. He finds Mina as she attempts to steal a wallet. Mina was literally dying when she was desperate enough to steal the wallet. This event forms an unbreakable bond between Mina and Lev. I adored them both. Even though Mina had been living on the streets for years, she wasn’t hardened or crass or criminal. Lev might not have been able to express how he felt, but when he did speak, his words were swoon inducing!
Dispersed within the love story of Lev and Mina is a bit of a mafia story (Lev’s family is former Bratva), a bit of a family mystery for Mina, and baby mama drama. I liked that the relationship between Lev and Mina was low angst. The trouble came from outside their relationship and I love that. I am hopeful that Aurora will continue the series. I would like to know about Cora and Alessio, Nas and Vic, and Sasha and Anika!
