Genres: Romantic Suspense

Goodreads
Ciro Donati was many things: My father’s most valued and trusted soldier. My brother’s best friend and second in command. And the only man I would give up everything for.
I fell hard for the Mafioso at the tender age of eleven. This beast of a man who I knew made people disappear—and probably enjoyed every second of it—was also the sixteen-year-old boy who had picked me up after I’d fallen flat on my face during my dance recital and told me I was the best ballerina he’d ever seen. He’s watched over me, protected me like I was the most precious thing in the world to him.
And then he sent me away.
Scarlett Vitucci was many things: The daughter of the biggest Cosa Nostra boss from New York to Chicago. The sister of the man I would gladly take a bullet for. And the only woman I would ever love.
Sending her away was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I didn’t deserve her or her love. For three years I stayed away, ignoring the gnawing ache that her absence left in my chest. Now, she was back and fighting what I felt for her was impossible. Letting her go had been a huge mistake.
One I would never repeat.
Defying her Mafioso is my first book by Terri Anne Browning. I love mafia/mob books, so I was excited to give this a shot. Overall, it was pretty good!
Scarlett and her identical twin Victoria are the daughters to mafia boss Vito Vittuci. They have spent the past 3 years living in Sicily with family but have finally returned to NY. Scarlett has been in love with Ciro since she was 11. Ciro is her brothers best friend and the capo. He pushed Scarlett away years ago and her heart broke.
Scarlett and Ciro do the push/pull dance for awhile but when tragedy strikes, Ciro ends the games fast. He knows he needs her in his life permanently and their relationship progresses pretty quickly. There is lots of danger. A rival mobster’s son is out for blood, a sketchy Russian seems overly interested in Scarlett’s sister, and then there is just the simple fact that they are the mafia. So, there is no shortage of possible killers out to get them. However, the plot is still pretty predictable. You aren’t really wondering who did what or why; its pretty clear and not difficult to guess. Now, that didn’t really dampen my enjoyment. I still thought the story was engaging and I pretty much read it in one afternoon!
While it says the book is book 1 in the series, I think there is a connection to another series of Brownings. The MC club is mentioned and the bad guy apparently had a role in one of the MC books previously. While I wasn’t lost or confused, I was curious as to how the east coast mafia got involved with a MC club from California. That part isn’t really explained.
The relationship between Scarlett and Ciro is not left as a cliffhanger, but parts of the story certainly are, leaving me to assume that the story arc will continue throughout the future books in the series. I certainly plan to pick them up!

The Eagle Elite series by Rachel Van Dyken, All of the Lights by K. Ryan, Carter Reed by Tijan…then you will probably like Defying her Mafioso!

I’m reading a mafia type romance right now and am really enjoying it so I was thinking just this morning about looking for more of the same kinds of books so this is great. It looks like it would fit the bill so I’m putting this on my wish list. Thanks for the review, Samantha!
