eARCs thanks to the authors and publishers:

Another low key week. I had my endocrinologist appointment Monday. We adjusted some medications and she wants me to eat more protein. I am suppose to aim for at least 120 grams of protein daily and try to stay under 120 grams of carbs. This is much more difficult than I expected!! She also said I need to drink at least 64 oz of water a day. I spent the whole week taking bathroom breaks! I’m a former teacher-I’m used to only have to go once because I have trained my bladder. So, If you have any great high protein ideas, send them my way!

At work, I finished assessing several kiddos. I have two more kids to test before the end of the school year. Compared to throughout the year when I was trying to get 7 evaluations done at a time. Next year, we have someone 2.5 days a week to help out at the high school, so I am VERY excited.

I’m hooked on Hello Kitty Island Adventure on Apple Arcade. It is taking up quite a bit of my time. It is a lot like Animal Crossing, so if you enjoyed that game, you will enjoy this one! I’m all about cozy games.

The war on rabbits continues at my house. The dogs keep escaping from the holes the rabbits make in the fence and am I over chasing the boys around at 5:30 in the morning. So, I got rabbit repellant to spread in the areas they frequent, new fence additions that are sturdy metal and go 15 in into the ground, and deep fence stakes to secure some other sections. I will not be defeated!! (Ok, I might be defeated but I will go down fighting.)

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I laughed at you going down fighting Samantha, even if I totally get why you’d be fed up waking at 5/30 AM! I know that chicken breast has a lot of proteins so maybe go with tath?

    • I’ve been doing a lot of chicken breast. I just don’t want to get burned out on eating the same thing, you know? I will win the Rabbit war of ’24! (I might lose, but I won’t go easy!)

  2. I eat a lot of nuts for snacks. Small amounts. Also instead of drinking milk, yogurt or cottage cheese has twice the protein for the same calories. I even like plain yogurt instead of milk with cereal although I don’t eat cereal often. I’m so happy to see your new work was a good choice for you. If you get tired of your rabbits, you can come take on the squirrels here.

    • Yeah, I’m adding some nuts to my food for the week. I cannot do yogurt or cottage cheese. Its a texture thing for me. I have never been able to eat them.
I must say, I am so thrilled with my job this, its been strange! I haven’t been this happy at work in a few years but this has just been a great job for me. I feel very blessed!
If I manage to win the rabbit war of ’24, I am moving on to the squirrels next so I will let you know how it goes!

  3. Nuts are good. I also found a brand of beef sticks that don’t have a ton of unhealthy things in them, it’s called Chomps. We’ve got bunnies in our yard, and fortunately my little dogs can’t get out of the small holes in the fences that the bunnies get through. And my two silly dogs rarely notice the bunnies if they’re not moving. Usually they only see them if I point them out or if they sniff and find them that way. Glad to hear you’re going to get some help at the school next year! Hope you have a good week.

    • Beef sticks without a ton of sodium is a tough find! Our dogs take off after the bunnies before I even see them! And these bunnies are creating big holes (I think there are other animals helping with the holes as well). It is very frustrating.

My daughter is working with a dietitian on a high protein diet. She boils or adds bone broth to a lot of stuff, and adds non fat Greek yogurt to stuff too. They have some good protein shakes out there without sugar that have 30 g of protein for 150-170 calories. I agree, it’s hard to hit those numbers. I am trying to do a plant forward diet and it’s a struggle. Good luck!

    • My doctor said protein shakes are a good option, but I can’t drink them. So I am doing protein bars for breakfast. I cannot eat greek yogurt or cottage cheese because I have a texture issue with those. So, grilled chicken, eggs, low fat cheese, and nuts have been my go to so far.

  5. I drink a lot of water. I could never go just once while working! It’s hard to make 120 grams of protein! Chicken, eggs, protein shakes, tuna is also high in protein. I’ll do a tuna melt here and there. It’s good! Good luck with meeting your goals!

  6. Blimey – that’s a LOT of protein. Best of luck in hitting those numbers:). And I’m so glad that your job is working out so well:). As for the rabbits… they are a challenge! I know my mother spent years and years trying to discourage them from the fields where her horses grazed because of the holes they dug. I hope the coming week is a good one, Samantha.
