    •   An intelligent woman shares her misogyny experience and I hate that we as women STILL deal with this every day

Also, there is this. Every day when I leave, I say “Be good puppies. Mama loves you. She’ll be back!”

I think I have a cold or sinus infection. Thursday I had a terrible headache and it hasn’t gone away since then. My nose and ears are all stuffed up. Blerg.

Otherwise, it was a pretty straight forward week. Another teacher stopped me one day and said a student told her how much she loved having me as her teacher. Those are the moments that teachers live for and I am so happy this coworker took time to tell me.

Money has been tight. My new insurance is just costing us so much money. How do people do it? I’ve been so lucky to always have had GREAT health insurance. Everything was covered except for a small copay. Now, NOTHING is covered until I hit a certain amount, and after that, its partially covered. It has been eyeopening, stressful, and expensive.

On a good note, I got another auto approval on NetGalley. It was totally out of the blue. It has been years since I had an auto approval so this was exciting! Now I’m auto approved for William Morrow, Avon, Harper Collins, Forever, and Kensington (my newest). Hooray!

I hope that everyone recently diagnosed with COVID-19 recovers; I hope that having so many people in power infected will help everyone be more vigilant regarding the need for masks, social distancing, and sanitizing. It has certainly been a good reminder for my students!

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear you haven’t been feeling 100% and that the insurance is so expensive. ? It must have been so lovely to hear that compliment from a student! Also congrats on another auto approval! That’s awesome!

  2. I currently have a massive headache that is taking up my entire head. I hope you are feeling better.
Insurance is awful, I have a very high deductable that is just dumb. Our insurance also barely covers anything. It’s very frustrating.
Congrats on the Auto Approval. I think I am auto approved for like 2 on netgalley but I also don’t request anymore so that could be why I don’t have any more lol

Have a great week, Samantha! Happy Reading!

  3. I hope you feel better soon. I think you are getting a taste of health insurance with a poor employer plan or not being able to afford anything but a high deductible. I have experienced this as self-employed, and with a job which cut my hours in the middle of the year so I ended up with 3 health plans every year and had to meet 3 deductibles. You can get an idea of why ACA is so important to some of us who can’t really afford decent insurance any other way. Each state has some different twists on things which isn’t always easy to figure out either. Of course, ACA is only an option if you can’t get insurance through work.

I wish you a better week ahead! I’m glad the teaching and students are working out at your new school.

  4. Sinus infections suck, I hope yours passes quickly. That’s so awesome about your student, it is so great to know you’re making a difference.

Ugh yes, health insurance blows! I’ve had expensive insurance for years and it’s just so frustrating. Health care should be a right not something you only get if you can afford to spend too much on insurance and / or Dr’s!

    *sigh*

    Have a great week!

  5. I tell my dog to be good whenever I leave! I don’t think she listens. I suspect she just stands by the window and barks the whole time I’m gone. My insurance used to be really expensive, but then I went to an enrollment center and got help buying new insurance. I don’t know if enrollment centers still exist? It was a few years ago. They were super helpful and free. Happy October!

  6. I hope you feel better, and I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with horrible medical costs, even with insurance!

It’s such a gift to get good feedback when you try hard to do good for the kids with your job . Yeah for getting auto-approvals. I love that!

  7. Oh no I hope you feel better! there’s so much going around even without Covid, I love this time of year except for all the allergy and sinus stuff. Ugh. And congrats on getting that news about being a favorite teacher! that’s awesome. 🙂

  8. I hope you feel better this week. Feeling so run down is miserable. How great to get that kind of feedback from a student (even second-hand). That must be so rewarding. and congrats on your latest auto-approval! I’ve *never* had an auto=approval so I’m impressed. 🙂

  9. Sorry for you being sick and the insurance problem Samantha! I don’t know how I would do if I was in your position. Now that student’s praise sure must have lifted your mood. That’s so amazing when a teacher gets such praise! Congrats!
