eARCs thanks to the authors and publishers:

My students have LOST THEIR MINDS. This week we had a fight, a kid (6th grade) caught with a vape, and a kid who straight up REFUSED to surrender his cell phone when asked (he had been snap chatting in the bathroom). Seriously. I want cameras in the classrooms so I can show parents how I couldn’t possibly indoctrinate their kids because they clearly don’t listen to a thing I say.

I had a big quiz for my Law class this week that was brutal. It was 60 questions and super difficult. Just listening to all the lectures took just over 2 hours, plus then another 90 min to do the quiz. I had a virtual meeting with my university supervisor as well. Then I have class Monday and Tuesday night this week. Tuesday my classes go until 11 pm. But, I keep reminding myself that it is all worth it to get out of the classroom. This year is seriously confirming that I no longer want to be a classroom teacher.

It was such a rough week and I really needed to just vent. I realized I cannot vent to the coworkers I thought I could. They were not supportive at all and it really hurt. I feel like as an adult, I don’t have many people I can vent to that won’t make me feel badly about it. Anyone else feel that way? Adult hood is kind of isolating.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. The things students sometimes do.. I have a 5th/6th Grade and they were talking about games like GTA and stuff like that last week.
    I’m like… Isn’t that 18+?!

Yay for putting up with these kids sometimes, haha. But I wouldn’t want a day without them either!

  2. I’m sorry you had such a rough week. From talking to all my friends that are still at the schools, kids have lost their damn minds this year. I think we can attribute it to all the the instability from COVID these past 2 school years. I loved being a classroom teacher, but I also am very thankful that I was able to get out when I did. Keep at it, the work will be worth it for sure. Hugs!!

  3. Sorry you are having a rough week, but YES! It will be worth it to get out of the classroom. I don’t know how many times I wished I had cameras with audio recordings to capture what some of those kids did in my room. It astounded me that not only did their parents always believe them, but so did my administration. Hang in there!

  4. Despite the number of book releases that happened last month, there are some great ones coming out this week. I am so sorry to see that you had such a rough week. I am supportive of cameras in the classroom. But when students act like that, it’s a lack of parenting and the blame shouldn’t be placed n the shoulders of teachers. I would have never considered acting that way in school, I would have been grounded for like six months. And while some teachers do indoctrinate ….MANY do not, I feel for you, I think teachers are some of the hardest working people and so underappreciated.

  5. You’d think if anyone could/would offer support and commiserate if would be you co-workers. Guess not? :/
But it’s just more confirmation that the tough schedule with your classes are worth it and your days in the classroom are numbered.

  6. OK not to get political but that is the trump effect of bullying, name-calling and doing whatever they want. It is difficult because if you express any opinions they are taken politically and may offend. It’s all exhausting and divisive. No wonder I love to stay home. I hope your classes go well and things are smoother this week.

  7. Ugh, we had a really rough couple of weeks too at school. This year has just been crazy! I hope things get better for you. I understand about wanting to get out of the classroom, that is why I am now a school librarian. But my new job has me doing things that are part of the reason I got out of the classroom, so I am even thinking I want out of education. So I totally get what you’re doing. Again, hope you have a better week! Thanks for visiting my weekly post earlier!
