Goodreads
Irresistible beats and tantalizing bodies heat up the night at South Beach’s most scandalous new club.
Alex: I hate doing business in clubs. Especially one like Duality. I’m here to seal a deal, not indulge in whatever hedonistic illusion they’re selling. Until, through all the skin and sex on display, I see her. Helen Blackwood. The girl who once filled my youthful fantasies, whose name is now synonymous with pain. Her father’s lies destroyed my family, leaving me with nothing to lose. And yet I can’t deny my electric response to her touch . . . or my urge to protect her when I see the bruise on her face.
Helen:
Growing up, life prepared me for society galas and powerful men, not minimum-wage jobs or drunk exes with anger issues. But I’m a survivor. So here I am, practically naked, serving drinks at a Miami nightclub. I don’t mind the stares. Apparently, Alex Archer does. After twelve years, we aren’t exactly friends, but money is something we both understand. Something he knows I need. I’ll be his personal assistant, even if it means working with the man I hate . . . and the man I still want.No cheating. No cliffhangers. And no dress code.

What about Us is a combination of second chance romance and miscommunication. Alex and Helen were close as siblings growing up. Alex was 5 years old and Helen was totally in love. On her 18th birthday, they kissed. Then the Feds raided her home and took her father to prison (and kept Helen for questioning for days). Her world changed that day-her father’s crimes cost her everything. She had no one who would help her; everyone was sure she was going to take the money her father had stolen and spend her days on a beach in the Caribbean. In reality, she had nothing and she believed her father when he said he was not a thief. Fast forward 12 years and Helen is a bartender with an abusive husband and Alex is a billionaire with his own company.
Alex blames Helen and her dad for everything wrong in his life and has spend 12 years focused on revenge. Helen couldn’t imagine why all her friends turned their back on her when she needed them most, especially Alex. Now they both confront each other and the mountain of lies and confusion over the years while she works as his assistant. I had many tears for Helen. The way she was treated was terrible. As an 18 year old, what adult would think she was a part of her father’s crime? However, at 18, she was incredibly naive in blindly believing her father was innocent. What was so sad to me was the way she was treated repeatedly. Alex obviously has social issues (his dad has Asperger’s and I am inclined to think Alex does as well) but some of the things he said in anger to Helen were so mean.
In the end, it was great to see Alex fight for Helen! What About Us was an angst filled fall from grace and rise from the ashes with two flawed people. I adored the first book in the series and What About Us reminded me why I enjoy Halston’s books.

…then you will probably like What About Us!

I feel the angst already just reading the review. I’m not in the mood right now but this could be a good book. If Alex is a billionaire, what did he lose to be so set on revenge? Anne – Books of My Heart
His father. It was sad how it was all connected!
I enjoyed your review. Thanks! And I’m a sucker for second chance romances. It’s fun to see how they get back together.
