House of BS and Lies is a new series by my most read author, Lani Lynn Vale! At first, I didn’t realize this featured the brother of another character, so I was excited when I made the connection. I was very curious about him when we first meet him in Forced Proximity.
Rome is an ex-con living in hiding in Montana. I loved the new setting-it was nice to get away from Texas for a change! He is working construction when he meets Mable. There is chemistry for sure, and once he finds out about Mable’s horrible family, he steps in to help. It doesn’t hurt that she is the best cook he has ever met. Overall, the issues with Mable’s family are most of the plot. It felt a little reminiscent of a previous book-parent stealing money from the kid, ruining their credit, gaslighting them. But, there are also issues with her stepsister as well, and that dynamic was interesting for sure.
I enjoyed Rome and Mable, but I was so mad at Rome sometimes. I am curiously about the other ex-cons who have settled in this small Montana town, and I hope we see more of Mable’s stepsister too.
