Nothin’

The first week back was exhausting! This is a busy time of year in schools anyway-state testing looms, IEP season is upon us, and there are no more breaks for a while. Plus, its January so the illness has descended. Flu, COVID-19, and RSV cases are all high here. So, send lots of love (and wine) to your educator friends. We are not okay.
I am heartbroken over the murder of a wife and mother in Minnesota. To be murdered by a federal agent and then blamed for it is unconscionable. As I have said repeatedly, none of her “crimes” carry the death penalty. If they felt threatened, there were many other options they could have taken. Its like we have bypassed the judicial system and decided that people deserve to be murdered for anything. I’m also very upset that there is more outrage. People are actually defending the “officer” and I don’t understand the lack of humanity. Add to that we just kidnapped the President of another country! What is happening?? I’m sad and scared. To think I could be shot dead for some transgression (perceived or real) is scary. What’s to stop an angry parent from storming the school stating another kid threatened their child so they feel that murder is appropriate? If its appropriate for federal officers, its not a hard leap to think that citizens will apply the same logic.
Sorry to get political, I know that’s not why you are here. It’s just weighing on my mind!
This year, my goal is to read more non-ARC books. I have been binging the Zodiac Academy series which has been on my TBR forever. I find that the grind of ARC reading took some of the joy out of reading. The FOMO is real though, so I kept signing up! Hopefully my new approach will help me be more excited about what I read!
So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

I am so sorry for what happened to that woman too Samantha and yes I get why it’s scary! Witnessing all these news from Europe is scary too to be honest. Hugs! Also for some weeks now I can’t see the pictures you add to your posts (the books etc). It’s like the link is broken. Maybe it’s my browser?
I am with you on every bit of the “political” views. What is wrong with people? How do they support the killing and the theft? I hope you adjust to the schedule and stay warm because this week is cold.
Yep, I try not to get political as well, but this is just scary right now. All of what you said is so scary that we are living in a world like this and people are defending it or if not that, okay with it.
Do you guys get MLK day off next Monday? I’m looking forward to that little break here. But you’re right, back to school right now is crazy! We start our testing for our English Language Learners this week too. I hope you have a good week at school! Looking forward to see what you think of the new Lani Lynn Vale book.
I watched the story open-mouthed at the sheer brazen entitlement and not a whit of remorse or regret over what happened to that poor woman. And as for what is unfolding in Venezuela and being threatened in Greenland… In the UK we’re used to being wary of Russia, not the USA!! So I know exactly how you’re feeling right now…
Back to books – a much happier subject – I try hard not to feel pressured about reading the arcs I request. But because I concentrate on them, I don’t take part in any book challenges, because reading is my main hobby and love and it would be a heartbreak if it stopped being fun. I know it’s a super stressful time in schools right now – wishing you as calm a time as possible!
That ‘agent’ murdered that poor woman , it’s sad and horrifying and your disgust and fear is warranted.
FOMO is a hard force to counter when it comes to books 🙂
Wishing you a happy and safe week
You are not alone in your feelings or fear. And every day it just seems to get worse. We are just now starting to see a presence here in my area or Oregon, though it’s mostly rural here, so its not as intense as it is in the larger cities, but it still makes me worry. Reading has become even more of an escape than it used to be.
Stay safe out there. It is scary.
