  • Everest by SL Scott

This Week’s New Releases:

  • More Fiona the Hippo from Cincinnati (where I live!) She is still a HUGE draw for the Zoo.

This Week’s Book Haul:

None!

Non-Bookish News:

Saturday was my birthday! I’m at the age where I don’t do anything for my birthday, but my students sang Happy Birthday on Friday which was nice. My husband got me a new pair of boots too! Plus, my Kindle Oasis from my parents…so over all, a pretty good birthday!

Otherwise, it was a pretty low key week! Work, work, work. Tuesday I tore a hole in my pants (at work!). So embarrassing! I was wearing a long shirt that day but still. I knew it was there! So, that sucked. And its that time of year when EVERYONE is sick so its like trying to avoid the plague!

My Christmas tree is up! I need to put out the rest of the decorations, but the tree is my favorite part, I can see it from my spot on the bed so I lay there at night and just stare at it. I seriously would leave it up all year long if I could!

Have you started thinking about your ‘Best of 2017’ list yet? I was looking back through my books and am feeling like I didn’t have a lot of AMAZING books this year. I had a lot of great books, but I think a best of list should include only those books that totally blew you away, ya know? Anyone else struggling to find the best books you read this year or is it just me?

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Glad to hear you had a great birthday. I try to avoid birthdays now, cuz I don’t want to admit how old I am anymore. *cries in corner* It’s so sweet that your school kids sang to you though… Not so much fun about the whole pants thing though. Have a great week ahead. πŸ™‚

  2. I have prepared some best of posts for the end of the year already, and I have been lucky enough to read several books that totally blew me away!

My review for So Over You is scheduled for next week, too… I’m curious if you enjoyed it as much as I did.

We haven’t done much Christmas decorating yet – and no tree. Not sure if we’ll get one either. My husband and I will be away for most of the holiday, and I’m pretty sure the kids won’t be cleaning up pine needles.

Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  3. Happy Birthday, Samantha! I hope you like your new boots and Oasis. I’ve been curious about the Oasis. You got your tree up! Yay! I am hoping we can get ours up today. I hope you are able to avoid getting sick. Something’s going around here as well, and I’m hoping I don’t catch it. Have a great week!

  4. Happy birthday! Glad it was a good one. And yes Fiona is awesome- love those videos! I imagine she’s quite the draw for the zoo there.

It is always nice to have the tree up. I agree, sometimes I like just looking at the lights especially at night when the other lights are low. Love Christmas!

  5. Happy Birthday!! I’ve been working on the Best of too and have found that not a lot was all that great. I did a lot of rereading this year and the new releases not many WOW’d me. I think I’ve found enough for my lists, but it wasn’t easy. I got the tree up and decorated before Thanksgiving. I usually get it up before then, because we have family sometimes just come for Thanksgiving and so we celebrate Christmas too, but not this year. I just like having the tree up with the lights. Something about a tree in the house makes it nicer ^_^. Have a great week and happy birthday!

  6. I loved So Over You, and I hope you did, too. I’m currently reading Roomies and really enjoying it, too! Happy birthday! Sounds like you got some great presents. :I haven’t started my best-of books of 2017 yet, but soon. πŸ™‚

  7. I agree with you on best books of 2017 100%! I can only think of a few books this year that knocked-me-off my feet and most of them were conclusions for series, so the love was more for the entire set of books…. not just the one. I’m not sure if I even had a book I read this year that kept me up too late past my bedtime (I’m starting to depress myself!)

I also saw something online for Fiona as Time Magazine’s Person of the Year – I think Fiona should win! Much less polarizing than many of the characters on the news these days πŸ™‚ Happy belated birthday, Samantha and happy reading!

  8. Happy belated birthday Sam! Oh I have had many of those embarrassing moments. Then some time after they make you laugh. I have been wrapping the year since November [because I’m doing it by plot. character, settings etc] Have fun decorating!

  9. Happy belated birthday! I was just seeing ‘on this day’ things the other day and pictures of my 30th flashed by and I was all nostalgic and thinking that I should have another birthday bash… But I don’t really want to celebrate my age anymore!! Ha ha. Sounds like you had a lovely one – especially the new Oasis! Awesome!

Argh – we’ve all been there in embarrassing situations! Sorry it had to happen at work though.

Our tree is still going up as the 3yo gets tired of decorating the mammoth that we have so we haven’t quite finished from the weekend.

Now I am thinking about Best of 2017…… Yikes.

Hope you have a wonderful week this week and thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

  10. Happy Birthday, Sam! I’m curious about the new Kindle Oasis, tell us all about it! I love my Kindle Paperwhite, but I’m thinking about updating… πŸ˜‰ About the best of 2017 list, I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t thought about it yet. November passed by me in a hurry and I feel like December is going by super fast to! I definitely have to organize my time more efficiently. :-/

  11. Aw I love hippos. We have some amazing creatures on this planet of ours.

Belated happy birthday! I hope the Oasis is amazing, I’m trying to decide if I’d upgrade to that or the Voyager when it’s time (probably within the next year).

I haven’t even started thinking about a best of list…I’m not sure if I read that many good books this year. Will have to look at my Goodreads challenge to remember!

Happy Belated Birthday, Samantha! I’m at the age where low key birthdays are a delight! Haha but that’s awesome about the new boots and the new Oasis. Do you like the Oasis? I just bought all of the books in the Kate Meader series so I’m looking forward to that…and your thoughts, too!

    Happy reading this week, Samantha!

  13. Aw, Happy Birthday! (I hope I’m not double commenting this week, but hey. If I am, saying Happy Birthday twice is no bad thing :D)

You got a Kindle Oasis! Congrats, that’s pretty awesome. I think those are nice, but I wonder how it compares to PaperWhite.

Work work work for me too… Such a busy week! Anyway πŸ™‚ have a good one!

Happy Birthday!! It sounds like you received some wonderful presents, have tons of fun using your new reader and wearing your new boots! And tearing holes in your pants is the worst!! A few years back I bent down to pick up one of my kiddos and put them in the shopping cart at Target. I didn’t realize that I tore the backside of my pants a good 8 inches. Luckily my mom was walking behind me and screamed at me to stop lol! And thankfully we were in Target so I could buy some new capris to fix the problem. Oh gosh, I’m sorry that happened to you too and thank goodness for long shirts!!
