Its here-today is officially the last day of summer break. Tomorrow, I go back to work full time. I feel fine about it now but in about 3 weeks, I’m gonna be sad. Thats how long it takes for me to get over the initial excitement of a new school year and start wishing for a break!

Wednesday we had the convocation for the county. I work for the county educational service center (ESC). They help schools fill positions for what is called related services-PT, OT, speech paths, school psychs, teachers of the visually impaired, and teachers of the deaf. Since most schools don’t need a full time person in one of these roles, they rely on the county to fill them. Then, the PT could still be a full time employee of the county and work at multiple schools. For speech paths and school psychs (me), schools actually do need us full time, but if they hire us outright, they have to pay for the tools-the test kits we use to assess children. Those test kits are thousands of dollars and we need multiple (IQ tests, achievement tests, behavior assessment, social skills assessments, etc). So, its actually cheaper for schools to contract with the county ESC because then they get bulk pricing for the kits. Bottom line-I am technically am employed by the county ESC but I am placed in one school (a middle school). So, once a year the county has a meeting because we don’t all see each other otherwise. Its a day for the county to go over necessary information and such. But, its good to see everyone. My fellow school psychs meet monthly with our supervisor so I get to chat with them frequently.

The rest of the week was filled with getting ready returning to work full time-laundry, organizing my home office, finding all my bras-which I have rarely worn since May because I didn’t leave the house much. Today I have to meal prep. I have a mentee again this year and I’m super excited. I love working with new teachers and psychs.

The dogs are not ready for my return to work. We don’t let them have free reign when we aren’t home. They have a room (we literally call it the dog’s room) with a big window with a seat, a couple of dog beds, and toys. It’s all tile flooring as well. We worked hard with house breaking Luna because of her past, so this will be difficult for her-its 8 hours in the room before I come home. She made it 7 hours on Wednesday before she peed on the floor, which is much better than I expected. Hopefully once we are back in the routine, she will adapt! We have cameras and I watch them throughout the day (the camera app is open on my computer in the background all day so I catch glimpses frequently).

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I have a camera on my dogs and the app is on my phone, but have wondered if I can figure out a way to put it on my computer at work. I’ll have to check it out. Although I’m thinking of getting a different one because I have a lot of issues with this one it seems. I think out district convocation is this coming Friday. I need to check out your review of Zomromcom, I see you only gave it 3 stars! Which I can kind of get. I guess I just enjoyed it so much it got a higher rating for that? It was an easy read and I think I needed that. Hope you have a good week!

  2. I’m not very familiar with the workings of our education system so it’s interesting to read about your job through this post. Good luck when you go back to work!

All good things must end, but I hope your year starts out well. Your dogs sound pretty lucky to have a nice space of their own. It’s better than being in crates.
