It was a busy week! I knew I wouldn’t be at work on Friday because I had a doctor’s appointment, so I had to cram everything into Monday-Thursday. It was a lot. I needed to finish assessments with several students and I try not to take them from their core academic classes. That leaves usually 1 or 2 periods a day I can snag them. If they are in the same grade at the middle school, then those periods are the same for all students. It makes it even more difficult! But, I got it all done. Now I just have to write the reports.

Friday I had my doctor’s appointment. Its an hour and a half away (it was so difficult to find an endocrinologist who would listen that it is worth the drive). Everything went fine. I need to go back to focusing on diet and exercise. My weight has always yoyo-ed, but now I am back up to my highest. I just LOVE chocolate and candy and carbs. Sigh. Also, I am getting older and my metabolism is pretty much non-existent now. I have also begun to develop arthritis in my hip. I knew it would begin sooner or later because my mom’s entire family has arthritis and my mom had both her hips replaced in her late 40’s. Old age is just a bummer.

This weekend I am working on my portfolio and thesis for grad school. I’m kind of behind so I need to just dig in and get the work done. I think because last year was so overwhelming with teaching full time and going to school full time that I just want to chill when I get home now. Also, part of the reason I haven’t been exercising (just what to chill) and eating poorly (don’t want to cook because I just want to chill). Hopefully I can find the motivation soon.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Looks like a good week for you. Lots of great releases to enjoy. I am excited to grab up the Ilona Andrews especially. Hope you enjoy those books that you acquired though! Its hard with being healthy because it basically means taking the time and energy to cook things, So I hope you get some energy soon.

  2. I felt better when I was fit and weighed less. So I am working back to it. I also love some sweets. I enjoy cooking in general. It’s easier for me in the summer with garden fresh stuff, but really we have some great stores here (Wegmans, Trader Joes, Aldi) where we can get even unusual produce most of the time. If I’m not having as much carbs or fat, then fresh is the flavor. I hope your project goes very well this weekend.

  3. I get that aging sucks Samantha! And I also get that when you come back home you don’t want to do anything. Maybe the solution would be a walk on your lunch break? Or going to the pool if the school has one? Anyway have a great week!

  4. Good luck with everything- I can relate. My problem is soda. I drink a lot of it where other people drink coffee or tea lol. I know it’s not good for me. Aging DOEs suck. I have been cutting carbs though (although I guess the pop explodes that because it’s loaded with sugar). Anyway… hope you have a good week. 🙂

  5. I’m with you on the metabolism thing. I’m trying to do better with eating. But that goes in ups and downs based on how tired I am or not feeling like cooking. We had finals this week and so kids who need a different testing environment or need the test read to them come to the library and we have teachers that do that for them. So while the library wasn’t empty all week, it was at least quiet! Hope you have a good week!

  6. I feel you on the loving sweets and carbs. For me, add soda to that gah I love my cokes! But I know I feel better when I prioritize my health with good eating and exercise so I’m trying to gradually get back to that. Sounds like a busy week, but you got it all done – good luck with your portfolio work! Have a great week!

  7. Sarah Pena

I feel you on the pain and weight gain, I’ve been struggling the past year more than ever. Sending my best wishes that you’re able to get the results you want!
I have not had an epic read or sale fund yet this month, but I’m hopeful!
    Have a great week!

  8. I miss Mock the Week! It was such a great show and always makes me laugh, love that romance novel one. Sounds like you had a busy week, glad you managed to get everything in despite your short week. What a long drive to see a doctor though! It sucks that the older we get the more we seem to fall apart a little and that bit more susceptible we are to small indulgences (for me it’s cake and chocolate, I have such a sweet tooth).

  9. Eating is a constant struggle. I hate cooking, and all my favorite foods are full of carbs and sugar. I’ve been trying to eat more protein this year because I’ve been told it will help me feel full, but so far that hasn’t been the case. I’m always hungry!
