This Week’s Book Haul:
Non-Bookish News:
Did everyone have a nice Valentine’s day? I had parent teacher conferences until 8 pm so it wasn’t an ideal way to spend the day, but its all good. I only had a few parents who wanted to chat, so I spend most of the evening working on paperwork and chatting with coworkers.
Saturday and Sunday I am giving the ACT again. Its for a student who gets multiple testing days. So while I’m not excited to spend my weekend at work, the extra money is nice and much needed. And at least I get Monday off for the holiday.
So that was my fairly boring week! Im kind of in a reading slump too. I was so behind on my goodreads goal and it was stressing me out so I lowered it. I can’t stand seeing “you are 6 books behind schedule”. Thanks, goodreads, I am aware that I am in a reading funk. I think I’m falling behind because I have been struggling with audiobooks. I used to listen in my car, but lately I’ve had issues with being able to hear the book clearly. Because of my hearing loss, I wear aids. Hearing aids amplify all sound, so I sometimes hear more noise from the roadway than I do the stereo. Turning the book up doesn’t help so I have just not been listening to books in the car. Not getting my 80 min of listening time a day in is really slowing down my book progress.
So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

Oh that sucks about the audiobooks. I’ve only recently started listening to them and the only place I can listen is the car and I’m loving it. It makes the commute far more interesting.
I haven’t read a Katy Evans book in a while but Million Dollar Devil sounds fun.
Thanks for the mention Sam! And sorry to hear about the issue with listening to audiobooks. That sucks.
I can’t listen to audiobooks because I have a hard time focusing, I believe I have ADHD it’s something I have been wanting to find out for a while. It would make a lot of sense. They really should have something with audio books that work for people with hearing loss.
My kids have winter break so I am excited to be off on Monday with them. I wish I had the week but I will take what I can get.
Have a great week, Samantha! Happy Reading! xx
Wow, that doesn’t sound like a wonderful Valentine’s at all. 🙁 Enjoy your long weekend, though!
I am sorry to hear that you are in a book slump…they are the worst. Hope you get past it soon!!! I am opposite I am like 20 books ahead, I have been on a reading frenzy lately. But yes the goodreads challenge can be so stressful if you get behind.
Ooh samantha I never thought about earing aid and how they would affect listening to audiobooks! Yet it seems so evident. I am sorry you are feeling under pressure. Maybe you could adjust your goal on GR to alleviate the pressure? And I really hope you’ll enjoy your well deserved Monday
Bummer about your audio books. Looks like a great haul this week.

I have trouble with audio too. I can sort of listen in the car because I don’t get as distracted there, but if I’m home or moving around I gt too distracted sometimes. It’s irritating lol!
Enjoy your Monday off! I love long weekends. 🙂
I’m sorry to hear about the audiobook issue. Would you be able to do it with earbuds? I always have to use them with my daughter in the car or in waiting rooms, or while shopping. I am the master of concentration, so I listen to audio everywhere, all the time. It’s really helped me to read more books and I love some of the narrators.
Hopefully you can read or work on things while they are taking the ACT as long as you watch them a bit. Lucky you to have Monday, we have regular school day plus medical appt. I hope this week goes much better for you.
I have some great noise canceling headphones that I use at home to listen while I clean. Its the only way I can hear the audio without the distractions. Sadly, its against the law to wear headphones and drive!
That’s a bummer that your hearing aids are ruining audiobooks. They definitely help me work on my TBR. I hope you enjoy your day off.
I never realized hearing aids would make listening to audibles such a struggle. Sorry about that. I can’t help but think we need spring to get here so we can de-stress. I hope you can relax and enjoy your day off:)
Thank’s for sharing the Book Tag on my blog. Long weekends are a blessing and a curse. It’s nice not to have to rush off some place, but my son is home from school well I have to find things to do with him, so my day’s aren’t my own. I’ve been in a reading slump too. I’ve been more into vegging out on TV lately then picking up a book to read or listen. I think I’m 1 book behind on Goodreads, but no worries yet. It’s still early in the year. Hope your weekend went ok. It’s never fun to have to work, but the extra cash is nice. Hope you enjoy your book haul. Have a great week!
That sucks to hear about your issues with the audiobooks in the car. My commute isn’t nearly long enough for me to even start an audiobook so I don’t listen much in the car. I do listen to hella audiobooks at work when I’m supposed to be answering phones, haha. welp.
