Target Engaged
ML Buchmann
Target Engaged is one of those books I struggled to rate. So, I will go back to the old “I liked…” and “I didn’t like…” style of reviewing.
I liked the action! ML Buchman knows his stuff when it comes to the ins and outs of the military and this book keeps it REAL! It was easy to get wrapped up in the story because of the realism he gives the story. I love military history and military documentaries so this aspect was right up my alley! If you liked Zero Dark Thirty, you would enjoy this book!
So, what I didn’t like was the romance. I’m just not sure I believed it. I think if I went into this book reading it as a military suspense book instead of a romantic suspense book I might have felt different. The romance just didn’t feel genuine to me. I love romance novels so I expect the romance to be the center of the story. The romance, to me, was overshadowed by the rest of the book and it felt forced.
If this book were more a story about a woman making it in a ‘mans world’ like the special ops division that she is in, I probably would have enjoyed it more. The romance kind of spoiled the ‘girl power’ moment, you know!
M. L. Buchman has over 35 novels and an ever-expanding flock of short stories in print. His military romantic suspense books have been named Barnes & Noble and NPR “Top 5 of the year,” Booklist “Top 10 of the Year,” and RT “Top 10 Romantic Suspense of the Year.” In addition to romantic suspense, he also writes contemporaries, thrillers, and fantasy and science fiction.
In among his career as a corporate project manager he has: rebuilt and single-handed a fifty-foot sailboat, both flown and jumped out of airplanes, designed and built two houses, and bicycled solo around the world.
He is now a full-time writer, living on the Oregon Coast with his beloved wife. He is constantly amazed at what you can do with a degree in Geophysics. You may keep up with his writing at www.mlbuchman.com.
