Lost something? Gabriela Rose knows how to get it back. As a recovery agent, she’s hired by individuals and companies seeking lost treasures, stolen heirlooms, or missing assets of any kind. She’s reliable, cool under pressure, and well trained in weapons of all types. But Gabriela’s latest job isn’t for some bamboozled billionaire, it’s for her own family, whose home is going to be wiped off the map if they can’t come up with a lot of money fast.
Inspired by an old family legend, Gabriela sets off for the jungles of Peru in pursuit of the Ring of Solomon and the lost treasure of Cortez. But this particular job comes with a huge problem attached to it—Gabriela’s ex-husband, Rafer. It’s Rafer who has the map that possibly points the way to the treasure, and he’s not about to let Gabriela find it without him.
Rafer is as relaxed as Gabriela is driven, and he has a lifetime’s experience getting under his ex-wife’s skin. But when they aren’t bickering about old times the two make a formidable team, and it’s going to take a team to defeat the vicious drug lord who has also been searching for the fabled ring. A drug lord who doesn’t mind leaving a large body count behind him to get it.
The Recovery Agent marks the start of an irresistible new series that will have you clamoring for more and cheering for the unstoppable Gabriela Rose on every page.

The Recovery Agent kicks off a new series from Evanovich and I am here for it! Gabriella Rose is a world traveler who finds lost items for her employers. So, the setting of the book is filled with unique places and experiences and the characters are delightful!

So, many readers are familiar with the Stephanie Plum series. I was a bit worried this would be another series just like that one. But, Gabriela is very dissimilar and that made me able to enjoy this as a truly new series. Gabriela is smart, driven, worldly, and dangerous. While she is normally globe trotting to recovery an item for a client, this time she is trying to save her small hometown in South Carolina after a hurricane. You get plenty of interesting side characters that really make things fun, and the settings are a definite bonus over Trenton, New Jersey.

If you wanted Stephanie Plum to be more badass, try The Recovery Agent because I think it will really appeal to readers. Gabriela certainly has the Lara Croft/Tomb Raider vibes which is very empowering! There is danger, missing treasure, a crazy cult, and an ex-husband. It’s bound to be interesting!

If you liked Fortune and Glory by Janet Evanovich…then you will probably like The Recovery Agent!

  1. I know many ppl are a fan of this author, and I am glad that this one has such a different edgier vibe for her and that you enjoyed this one like you did.

Great review Samantha! Hope you are well.

  2. I read this review because I used to love the Stephanie Plum series so was excited to see Janet Evanovich had a new one out. Gabriela Rose sounds good, I know Stephanie could often be a little frustrating so hearing Gabriela is more badass is a definite plus for me. I think it sounds fun, and I’m all about reading more fun books.
