Non-Bookish News:

This week at school was homecoming week! This is pretty much just chaos-theme days, spirit olympics, the football game, the parade, and the dance. Then Thursday and Friday I had to attend an in service to become a mentor to the resident educators in our building. It was a pretty good training overall (thankfully); they aren’t always worthwhile so I was glad. Also, Thursday night was meet the teacher night so it was a LONG day.

That was pretty much my week. Work, work, work. This weekend (and into all of next week) the temperature is suppose to climb back up to the mid 80’s and I am not a fan. I love colder weather so I’m ready for this heat to go away.

So last week I mentioned I was really struggling with reading the books I had previously committed to reading that no longer sound good. I started reading novellas or parts of anthologies to help me break up the required books. I can finish them super fast so they don’t interfere with my schedule, but give me a feeling of choice which is nice. Hopefully this will be the answer!

I feel so old because my back hurts. I noticed it Friday when I stood up after sitting for awhile. By Friday night, it was horrible. When I am sitting/laying, its fine but trying to walk…um no. Just no. So I am taking it easy and trying to not over tax my back but still stretch it and all that. I think its arthritis related. My hip has been really bugging me lately too, and I know that is arthritis. Seriously, this getting old stuff is for the birds. Are there any perks to it at all? Bills, weird pain, and wrinkles are all I am getting.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. We’re scheduled to be in the 80’s all week this week!!!! I can’t imagine how warm you’re going to get!!!! Yikes 🙁 And ya know, check with your doctor about your back pain. Maybe it’s related to some drug you’re taking? You really are too young to be sore, maybe it’s a side effect? You really never know. But yep, stretching is good – I vote for yoga 🙂 15 minutes and a youtube video is all you need 🙂

I hope the short stories help you with your slump!! If not, try spooky stories for October…. maybe??? Have a great week and stay cool 😉

    • Sadly, I inherited the arthritis from my mom. She had her hips replaced when she was 45 (which is insanely young for a procedure like that) because her arthritis is so bad. My grandma was the same way. So, we know its arthritis and it was kind of accelerated from an injury when I was younger. Major bummer but what can you do!?
And I found a great Yoga by Adrienne video specifically for back pain so I am psyched!
I think I am going to jump to the Christmas novellas-snow, presents, etc. All things I LOVE!

  2. I’m so sorry about your back. Have you had it checked? I feel it keeps coming I suggest you do. Anyway, Enjoy your new books. Yes, trying short books might help. Just read what you want and don’t force to read the ones you’re not interested. I hope you have a wonderful week filled with awesome books that will help you out of this slump. Happy reading. #hugs ❤️

    • Actually, its been a chronic problem for many years. They give me pain killers, suggest a cortisone shot (which I refuse to do-Im too young to mess with that yet!), and tell me to rest. So, I just take some advil, rest, and heat. Its actually already feeling a bit better!
      Thanks!

  3. As we get older we have pain in places that we didn’t even know we could have pain, so I completely understand. 😉 I hope you back does feel better. My son’s school had their homecoming week last week too, and they had a lot fun with all the different days.

Have a great week ahead, and thank you for stopping by.

  4. Sorry your back is giving you grief – I SWEAR by my TENS machine. After nearly a decade of chronic back pain when I felt like an old lady I got hold of one and it has been like magic. I’m now back to Fitstep and Pilates and haven’t attended physio for nearly 2 years now. Hope work eases up – it is always a hectic term. Have a great week:)

    • My dad has a tens unit for many years (he has chronic rotator cuff issues) so I have had the chance to use it before and it does help quite a bit! Luckily, this was kind of a mild ‘attack’ overall. Rest, heat, advil, and I am almost feeling normal again!
However, nothing got cleaned around my house so it looks like a disaster zone.

  5. I am glad the in-service turned out to be worthwhile. I had to attend a training this past week for work–it’s part of an eight part series–and it wasn’t as good as previous sessions have been, unfortunately. Hopefully the next two will be better. I imagine there is some relief that comes with the end of homecoming. 🙂

I am sorry to hear you are having back trouble. I suffer from it too from time to time, and I’m pretty sure I have the beginning signs of arthritis too, although I try to ignore it. 🙁 I am with you. This growing old thing sucks. I do hope your back is feeling better soon.

I hope you have a great week, Samanatha!

    • In service that is a waste of time makes me all ragey!!! Thankfully, I got some good stuff from this one, and I met some great people!
I always try to ignore my impending old age issues! Thankfully, after a weekend of rest, heat, advil and stretching, it is feeling a bit better and I don’t walk like a hunchback! Yay!

  6. Sounds like you’re having such a busy time at work! And oh no about those pains. Can you see someone for it? It sounds uncomfortable! I feel stressed about growing old too. I freak out every time I think about it. I don’t like thinking about making decisions and all.
I hope you enjoy your new books! 🙂
    Happy reading and take care!

    • I have seen a doc for the issues before. They usually give me some pain killers but thats about it. So, its easier if I just stick to my routine-heating pad, advil, rest, and then some PT. My mom has really bad arthritis so I knew this would happen to me, and at least because she has been through it, I have lots of the PT memorized so I don’t have to pay to go any more!

  7. OH I hate growing old too…I am already 30 and I have to take bone supplements to help in my arthritis, stretch every day so I don’t pull muscles and buy more expensive face care and lotion for my skin. Such a pain.

    • I had to get hearing aids at 32! What kind of BS is that?! Ugh and the expensive face lotion!! And yet I still get pimples. Shouldn’t I be past that part? So unfair!

  8. I h8 getting old too. I work on Sunday at a vet hospital. I’m one of the boarding staff, can’t stand to many people, but I love animals. Every time I come home from work, muscles I don’t use hurt. Getting up and down hurts. It takes me a day or two to recover. It’s fun though and do love the animals.
I haven’t been feeling in the mood to read the review books I have. I’ve been picking up Audiobooks at my library to listen too. My mood for reading hasn’t been around. I think I’m in a slump =/. Nice book haul. I hope you enjoy them.

    • I could never work at a vets office or an animal rescue because I would want to take all the animals!!!!! But it would be fun!
I’m glad I’m not the only one in a slump. It sucks! I have been enjoying audiobooks at least so thats been my main source of reading lately.

  9. Homecoming time already- wow! Ours is in a few weeks too. And we’re supposed to have 80’s next week, so yeah- Indian summer I guess!

Hope your reads are all good this week.

  10. Wait! I thought of one of the perks of getting old — you get away with saying whatever pops into your head. (right?) I taught HS for 12 years, so obviously, I felt old, but even now, I am one of the older people on my team It stinks when they don’t get your pop culture references. I want to read the new Play By Play. I am a fan.

    • Oh, the 2 other girls in my department (special education) graduated high school when I could have been their teacher. Heck, I could be their mom and I wouldn’t have even been on 16 and pregnant. And they never understand my pop culture references but I don’t get most of theirs either so its cool.

  11. We had meet the teacher on thursday too – such a long day! I always feel like I might as well just setup a cot because I have to be back so soon after :/ I’m glad your training turned out to be useful – we had one this week that was an hour and a half of my life I’ll never get back. Too often they are not useful at all! Sounds like a really hectic week – hopefully this week will be better.

Perks of getting old? Wisdom? Getting away with saying shit because you’re old? LOL that’s all I’ve got :/ Have a great week!

  12. Definitely sounds like a busy work week! A lot going on. I feel you on the hot weather. I am so over it. Unfortunately we still have plenty more to go down here in FL. Ugh, back pain pretty much sucks. You never realize how much your back is needed for every little movement until suddenly it hurts. I have a boss who likes to say “Gettin’ old ain’t for sissies.” So true! LOL

  13. Don’t feel old! My back has been hurting since 14 🙂 so that doesn’t mean you’re old at all 😀 just… not in your best shape 🙂 swimming and certain kinds of exercise help a lot though. I hope you can figure it out, back problems are nothing fun for sure.
Have a great reading week 🙂

  14. My kids meet-the-teacher was this week too. I honestly didn’t think about how long of a day it was for their teachers. I was just so happy to have my kids show me around their new classrooms. I love their new teachers.
I am sorry to hear about your back issues. You might want to see a doctor because it might not be arthritis. I am nurse and I can tell you some horror stories. Pain is your body telling you something. Rest is good, but if you feel stiff after sitting a while then maybe exercises might help. I don’t know. I hope you feel better soon.

  15. Just stumbled across your blog for the first time …. so many wonderful books and reviews here!!! Fraternize looks like a lot of fun and I’ll have to remember it for next time I’m craving a football read. Hope your student behave for homecoming (such a fun time of the year) and that your back feels better soon 🙂

  16. Sorry it took me almost a week to visit! Back to school has been CRAZY! I see you have been very busy too! Sorry to hear about your back and that you feel obligated to read some books now, I hate that feeling. That’s why I had to take a break from Netgalley
I hope you are feeling better by now!
