New Releases coming this week:

eARCs thanks the to authors and publishers:

Work went well this week. We have gotten into a grove with things, which is great! I had to reprimand a couple kids this week and I HATE that. I have such a hard time with kids being upset with me. Middle schoolers are always emotional, so having them say they don’t like me any more happens sometimes, but I always take it personally. This has always been my biggest challenge as a teacher. I keep hoping that one day I will be stronger in this area, but its been 13 years of teaching and it still hurts. Sigh.

Saturday we got a dishwasher from my parents and I am elated!! Ours broke 3 weeks ago and we really didn’t have $500 to spend on a new one. My parents redid their kitchen about a year ago and they took out their appliances and still had the dishwasher. It’s getting a workout now trying to catch up on the dishes I haven’t hand-washed.

Friday I fell asleep at 5:30 pm and didn’t wake up until 9:30 Saturday morning. My allergies are really killing me lately. I’m trying to find a new time to get in a workout. I refuse to get up earlier than 5:00 am. It’s just too early. But, by the time I get home from work, I’m exhausted and never work out. As such, I’ve gained a few pounds. So, I have to figure out something.

Finally, I want to share my TPT classroom fund. I hate asking for money from people, but since this is the first time I have ever taught 7th grade ELA and SS, I don’t have a big lesson bank to pull from. Its kind of like being a new teacher again (exhausting!). So, if you can (I know money is so tight for every0one) or you know anyone who likes to donate to educational pursuits, feel free to donate or share: TPT Class Fund for Samantha Carpenter

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m glad you’re settling into a routine – that really makes a big difference with school from my experience. I think this is one reason I prefer Kinder – they may say they hate me, but with such a baby angry temper tantrum like voice, I almost want to laugh. We both know they don’t mean it. Middle schoolers are in a similar moodiness as Kinders but they seem so much older so it doesn’t feel the same ?.

Good luck finding a routine that works for you with workouts, I’ve had to do some juggling these past few months to find what will work for me in this new world we live in. And I’m still not loosing ?

    Have a great week!

    • Yeah, I really take it personally when they are mad at me. Its silly, I know, but I’m just sensitive. I think being sensitive is why I wanted to be a middle school teacher-I get them.
I am hoping I won’t be AS tired this week after school and can try to get some time in then.

  2. I am glad you are settling into a groove – it makes it so much easier. But I recall the exhaustion at the start of term all too well… Try not to get too wound up about when you need to reprimand children – some always need to test the boundaries and it really isn’t personal. They are not doing it because they dislike you – but because they need to know where they are with you. What luck to get a dishwasher for free? I’m so glad you have one – it’s one of those must-have items when you are working full-time at a demanding job, I think. I hope the coming week is a good one, Samantha:)

  3. That was very fortunate that your parents still had their old appliances from last year, and now their old dishwasher has a new home. Fantastic! Middle school is an interesting age with them feeling older but younger and trying to exercise their autonomy but not really knowing how to do it properly. I am sure you all will grow a lot together over the year. I hope you get some relief for your allergies too.

  4. I’m glad you are getting a routine for school. If we finally get a little cooler, I’m going to start a new routine. We had 8 weeks without a dishwasher when we were renting until the landlord finally got it replaced. We just used paper plates. Wow another In Death book this week. I love them.

    • We have been using paper plates and plastic utensils but it feels so wasteful. Also, there are just so many things I had to use real cookware for. So I’m so glad to have a dishwasher again!

  5. Samantha maybe include your exercise routine at lunch time? I don’t know if it would be a possibility ….And I understand you hating to reprimand kids even if it has to be done!

  6. Glad you’re getting into the groove of things but that sleep from Friday to Saturday is insane you were obviously tired. Glad you managed to get a dishwasher, I hate washing up but the dishwasher just seems a bit much when there is just me to wash up for. I did notice it when I moved and didn’t have a dishwasher anymore.
