The Deans List

I had a pretty boring week. Today, my husband and I are going to the museum center to see the new Lego exhibit. If you have seen Superman or The Justice League, you have seen the Cincinnati Museum Center. They use it as the “Hall of Justice” exterior. Its beautiful.

My hormone blood work came back…all normal. That’s a good thing, but it isn’t helpful. I have tried so many different avenues to figure out the sleep issues, weight gain, brain fog, and concentration struggles. I just don’t know where to go from here. And all of it is amplifying my anxiety, which increases my OCD behaviors.

Its time for new hearing aids too. My current ones are 6 years old, which isn’t terrible, but they are not great. They rub my ears and by the end of the week, I have a sore. I have to remember to put kinesiology tape on my ear or I will be in serious pain by Wednesday.  They are rechargable, which was great, but not so much anymore. Both batteries in the aids have been replaced already, and now the case seems to be going bad. So, there are times when something happens and they don’t charge at all. That makes them useless, and my hearing is so impaired that I can’t work without my hearing aids. So, I need to get new ones. If you are lucky enough to not know anyone who has needed hearing aids, they are not cheap. Insurance doesn’t cover them either. So, in 2020, when I got my current pair, it was $5200. Now, with inflation and everything, I’m looking at $7200. I’ve been putting aside some money, and I can use my HSA card, but right now I’m only about 1/2 way there.

So, hopefully I will have a better week this week!

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Samantha

I just learned something new. I had no idea the Justice League was real. I was in Cincinnati once for a concert, but I didn’t see anything. Good luck with your hearing aids.

  2. Healthcare in the US is so horrible. My daughter has so many medications. I look at the list in November when we select out plan to see what is covered. Then they stop covering 3 months into the year. I think they should have to keep with the meds they covered for the year I signed up. And vision, hearing and dental are part of health. It’s stupid. I hope you can enjoy your summer break.

    • Yeah, the older I get, the more broken I realize our healthcare system is. I was very lucky as a kid to have amazing insurance through my dad’s union job. The union made sure they had great insurance. Now I wonder what exactly I am paying premiums for because I certainly don’t get anything out of it.

  3. It is ridiculous the things insurance doesn’t pay for. Like I’ve never understood about eye care, especially as I’ve had to wear glasses or contacts my whole life almost. Why isn’t that paid for? I didn’t realize how much hearing aids cost! I was thinking I might be having some hearing loss as it seems like my tv is quieter all the time even when it is set at the same volume number I use. And I wonder if it means I’m losing my hearing. It’s good that your hormones were normal, but it sucks also because then there’s not an answer for the issues. My friend who is a nutritionist had hoped to find a certain “bad” thing in extra bloodwork she had me do, then it was an easy surgery, even if you had to go to the Mayo Clinic to get it done it was usually covered. But that is not what we found, and since it is so hard to stick to the diet she wants me to do, I can’t try to figure it out that way either. Ugh. I hope you get some things figured out. And I hope you have a better week!

  4. That’s an appalling amount your expected to pay for hearing aids , is Costco an option for you? As for your symptoms a women’s health clinic might be a better option, it’s known that because hormones fluctuate so wildly during perimenopause blood tests aren’t usually helpful. HRT might still be beneficial though.

Thanks for sharing your week, happy reading
