I got nothing this week!
It was a busy week!! I had class until 11:30 on Tuesday night which made for a very difficult Wednesday. A teammate had it out with my co-teacher over the fact that my co-teachers teenage daughter shows up frequently in the middle of the day with her friends to get candy and snacks. They are super loud in the hall. Our middle school and high school are in the same building, but HS students (such as my co-teachers daughter and her friends) aren’t suppose to be on the middle school side during the school day. So, everyone was having a meltdown on Thursday.
However, I got to check lots off my school psych practicum list thanks to the awesome intern at the elementary! She scheduled a WISC and a WIPPSI in the afternoon so I could see them and get them checked off my list. Monday we get to go to a manifestation determination meeting and check that off our list too!
My students this year are so…blah. They are really selfish, self centered, unkind, and sometimes even cruel. I haven’t seen a group like this in years. Even the group I had during my first year of teaching wasn’t this self-centered. They lie so easily it is kind of disturbing. If you want to know why teachers are getting out of education, I think it has more to do with the students than anything. Yes, admin isn’t supportive, there is the expectation to do too much, but honestly, I used to be able to ignore that stuff when I could see growth and development in students. That isn’t happening this year and it really makes everything else even more challenging.
Also, one of my 6th graders pooped his pants. In class. So yeah, that was my week.
So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!
oh my your students seem really a bad bunch this year Samantha! I am so sorry! One more year and then…
Oh my, I hope this week is a bit better for you. Electric Idol – enjoy!
Well I’m glad your schoolwork and practicum(?) are going well. The students are emulating tfg with lying, bullying, name-calling and selfish behavior. Too many adults are modeling this behavior. I hope you get through this year and can move on to a much better situation.
I’m sorry you’re having such a tough time in the classroom – my teacher friends have made similar comments about the kids this year being rough, disrespectful and the parents even worse (not a shocker, since that’s where they learn it). I hoping this is a side effect of being home and isolated with covid, and it will improve in the upcoming years.
Have a great week!!
I hope you enjoy Electric Ido, I got that one too and I adored Archangel’s Light, that book was so dang good.
Sorry you are not getting the support from the administration that you need, but sounds like things are going well with grad school. I would never be able to do class until 11:30 and then teach the next day. You’re amazing!
My daughter-in-law is a teacher as well and she also says she has no support from administration. It’s upsetting. Hope your week goes better!
Yikes, what a week. Sounds like the issues with your co-teacher continue – now with her daughter hanging around when she shouldn’t be. And what a nasty group of kids. 🙁 I’d love to see some of the parents see how they act in class and have to try to teach them all day.
