Charmed is the story of the only girl in the Prescott clan, Gretchen. She is sweet and smart, and has been totally snowed by her boyfriend. Dealing with that crushing blow, she starts to find some solace in Mason, her new sister-in-law’s best friend.
Mason seems like a good guy. He has a job, goals, and knows how he feels about Gretchen. He is Lucy’s best friend, and she is wonderful, so I am thinking “He has to be a good guy, right?!”. Then he goes back to CA after visiting for Gretchen’s brothers wedding and has sex with someone else. He has a ‘fuck buddy’. This buddy, Amber, and Mason have a deal, they both know exactly what they are getting into, and both know that if the other finds ‘the one’ the benefits are over. But, it still totally soured me to Mason.I know he and Gretchen weren’t together at this point, but he like her, he knows her boyfriend is an ass, and he has sex with someone else. Gretchen didn’t have sex with her boyfriend at any point during the story. I struggled with Mason throughout the story. There were times he was AMAZING. Then, things just felt off. Then, he pulls a bit of a martyr act and is kind of testing Gretchen and it just pissed me off. And the almost 3 some…no. Mason, just no…
At about 85% there is this mind blowing twist. I was like “WTF is happening?!”. Seriously, mind blowing. I was all pissed, the confused, then worried because there wasn’t much book left. Seriously, WTF just happened? This twist is what saved the book. I was totally going to give it 2 stars. Then BAM. Well played, Ms. Schwehm…
