Security expert Matthias Clarke hunts down people who don’t want to be found. His latest prey: the sole survivor of a massacre that killed his brother years ago. Kayla Roy claimed she was a victim of the carnage. Then she disappeared. Matthias thinks Kayla may have actually been the killer—and he wants justice.
Kayla Roy never stays in one place too long and never lets a man get too close. But keeping Matthias at arm’s length may be impossible. Dark and enigmatic, Matthias draws Kayla in from the start. She knows nothing about his connection to her dark past, or his thirst for vengeance. She only knows their attraction feels overpowering—and very dangerous.
Matthias’s suspicions about the sensual Kayla clash with his instinct to protect her, especially when he realizes her life is in danger. But Kayla’s not looking for a savior—especially one who seems hell-bent on tempting her down a lethal path.

Helenkay Dimon is another new to me author! The Enforcer was a delightful read with a good balance between mystery and quirkiness. With likable characters and a fast moving story, I was sucked in almost instantly!

Matthias is so graceless when dealing with people! He has a bit of a ‘Sheldon’ type personality. He doesn’t quite understand how to interact with humans and doesn’t understand why he has to use verbal finesse when working. Thankfully, he has Grant, a colleague, to help him realize when he is acting like a moron (much like Sheldon has Leonard!). I liked his quirkiness and thought it made him an endearing character. Its not often in books like this when you have a bad ass former military type who is so awkward. I kind of fell in love with him because of it.

Kayla survived a terrible tragedy and has been on the run ever since. Sure she is being hunted, she has changed her name and moved multiple times in her young life. Matthias wants to find out what she knows about that terrible tragedy; see, his brother died that night and he needs info. When you mix Matthias’ inept attempts at socializing and Kayla’s highly suspicious nature, you have a bit of a disaster brewing!

I enjoyed the mystery of the story. There is a lot going on, lots of shady suspects, and one down right hateful mother. What made the story perfect for me was Matthias and Kayla’s relationship. Their banter was perfection and they are the perfect ying to the others yang!
