Praised by Penelope Ward as “a unique story line with multiple layers to it,” Sarah Robinson’s Saving a Legend goes another round with the brooding Kavanagh brothers: MMA fighters who won’t call it quits in the ring, or in romance.  His family’s gym has produced a roster of mixed martial arts legends, but so far Kieran Kavanagh hasn’t followed in their footsteps. After a brawl lands him in jail, Kieran is assigned to work at a center for at-risk youth. Though given a second chance, Kieran’s simply going through the motions—until he meets one very special kid, Shea Doherty, and falls hard for her very beautiful, very grown-up big sister, Fiona. The trouble is, Kieran’s best opening moves are getting him nowhere fast.   Fiona Doherty has too many responsibilities to fool around, especially now that she has custody of Shea. Sure, she’d love to find a devoted partner. But she won’t jeopardize her sister’s happiness—or risk revealing her tortured past—on a love-’em-and-leave-’em type of guy like Kieran . . . so it’s up to him to prove her wrong. As Fiona spends more time with Kieran, she starts to see a softer side of the reckless warrior. Now she must admit that when it comes to the possibility of real love, well . . . there’s a fighting chance.  Praise for Sarah Robinson’s Breaking a Legend   “Equal parts sexy, intense, and emotional, Breaking a Legend will suck you in from the very first page and refuse to let go until long after you’ve finished. It’s one of my favorite MMA books to date.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken   “Rory Kavanagh will have your Irish blood warming, even if you aren’t Irish. Sarah Robinson does an amazing job with this sexy, sweet, edge-of-your-seat romance.”New York Times bestselling author Kelly Elliott   “Breaking a Legend is a steamy, white-hot romance that will leave you wanting more!”New York Times bestselling author Lauren Hawkeye   “Equal parts raw and romantic, Breaking a Legend has it all: a hot, damaged hero, a wonderfully real heroine, and the perfect blend of romance and steam.”USA Today bestselling author Lauren Layne  Includes a special message from the editor, as well as an excerpt from another Loveswept title.

what i think

So, Breaking a Legend was one of my favorite reads of 2015! Needless to say, I jumped at the chance to grab Saving a Legend. I love Robinson’s style and her characters are wonderful.

Saving a Legend is the story of Kieran Kavanagh, fresh out of prison, and Fiona, the sweet flower shop owner caring for her sister. I was curious about Kieran when I read Rory’s book-you know he is in prison and you know Rory was really upset by it. What made me fall in love with Kieran? He hugs Fiona after she tells him she is the guardian for her sister Shea with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I mean, it was perfect! He just swooped in and hugged her! Gah!

If you don’t know, I am a special education teacher. I love characters in books who have special needs and children with ASD is one of my passions. I work with kids on the spectrum and they are some of the most unique, intelligent, challenging, and lovable kids in the world. I was pleased with how well Robinson portrayed not just Shea, as a child with ASD, but Fiona as a caregiver to a child with ASD. Caregivers are miracle workers in my eyes. To find out how to ‘unlock’ the needs of a child who can’t always express them is nothing short of a miracle.

So, back to the romance. Kieran is amazing. Yes, he has been in prison for aggravated assault. You get to see the impact this had on his relationships with his family-some love him like it never happened and some don’t seem to be able to move past it. And Fiona is as lovable as Clare from the previous book. She is sweet, hardworking, and impossible to not like. Like Clare, she has a dark past as well. She and Kieran are wonderful together, but I did get a bit annoyed at the number of times she pushes him away. It created a lot of angst that made me want to shake her!
