Non-Bookish News:

Ok, most of you know I am a high school teacher. The boys basketball team at the school had a district sectional championship game Thursday… at 9:30 pm!! The location? About an hour away from our school. So, at best, the kids would get home around midnight or 1 am! Obviously, whoever schedules these games forgets these are high school students. However, I teach at a private school-so my principal decided to cancel school on Friday. There is no better feeling that getting an unexpected day off. Even better, the basketball team won.

Other than the surprise day off, it was a pretty quiet week. A parent brought me coffee for our IEP meeting. I love that I get to know the parents I work with as I stay with the students on my caseload for all 4 years they are in high school. Its awesome to see the growth and change in the kids, and I really get to bond with the parents.

It has been so rainy here that our backyard is pretty much just a mud pit. I had given up on trying to mop up all the muddy paw prints that criss cross our house. But, it got COLD Friday, and isn’t suppose to rain for almost a week so I might actually try to find the floor under all these muddy prints! This is the first spring we have lived in our house, so we had NO IDEA how muddy the yard would get. I am going to have to figure out a way to make it drain better.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Yayy for surprise days off!! Those are definitely the best! Sorry to hear about the muddy yard tho. I hope you are able to find a way to get it to drain somehow. My friend is actually having the same problem. Her and her husband just bought a house a couple months ago and they are getting a small lake in their backyard. They are getting worried that if the rain continues it could come in through their patio door. Looks like you got some great looking new books this week. Hope you love them all and have a great week!

  2. I love a good surprise day off! That parent was so nice. I love it when people do random acts of kindness like that. I love that Tessa Bailey book so I hope you love it too. I read the first book in the Helen Kay Dimon series and didn’t love it, so I haven’t felt the urge to read the next book. But I’ll keep an eye out for your review.
I hope you have a good week!

  3. Baby Fiona is so cute! I love those ears.

Yay for days off and glad that your team won. If I were a high-school student, I’d actually love staying up that late. LOL

Hope you have a great week! ~Aleen

    • Fiona is adorable!! I am obsessed. I probably would have loved staying up that late if I were still in HS. But, now I’m too old for that!

  4. OMG – What an awesome parent to bring coffee to an IEP meeting!!! Why didn’t I ever think of that??!?!?! Too late now that I do mine over the phone with our online school but still. How flippin’ awesome!!!!

Oh, and thanks for addicting me to Fiona last week. I blame you… 😀

  5. Baby Fiona is SO cute. Ohh I can’t. I want to hug her so bad. 😀
Glad to see that you have awesome looking books to read, Sam. I hope you enjoy all of them.
    Have a great week.

  6. Haha, that hippo was like, “No thanks, I’ll just lie down instead.” How awesome that the principal canceled school for the basketball game! And that sounds great that you get to stick with the same kids and parents so that you really get to bond with them and see the changes. Sounds rewarding 🙂 Sorry about the mud and the rain though!

  7. Okay the hippo video is awesome. Such a cute thing. And that is a late time for a game- but yay for the day off! Nice. Sounds like a nice system for keeping with the kids, I’ll bet that helps with continuity. You hear so much negative all the time about education, it’s nice to hear some positive!

Have a super week, and good luck with the mud. 🙂

  8. A suprise day off is awesome! I am at the end of my impromptu 3 day weekend, but it was Monday, not Friday for me. I was suppose to go with my Miguel to Texas, he is there for a conference, but the plane tickets were so expensive. I spent the weekend with the kids and took them to the Pez museum. I hope this week is awesome for you!

  9. Yup I do know you are a teacher. I LOVE TEACHERS! I work in public education [finances though] so education is very dear to me. OMG only a private school would schedule a game that late! LOL but.. hey! DAY OFF YAY! UGH the weather.. we are getting 12-18 of snow tomorrow UGH UGH UGH!!!

That’s awesome about your surprise day off. I wish we got those here at my job. Congrats to your boys basketball team! That’s awesome for them.

You guys should move to Southern California, we have lovely weather this week! 🙂

Have a great reading week, Samantha. You always read so many great books!

  11. Haha, it’s so hard not to watch the baby hippo videos. I haven’t shown my girls yet, because I know they will become obsessed. Nice book haul! Have a great week!
