The summer heat arrived with a vengence this week. We are in the upper 90’s this week. The only good thing is there is finally a break in the rain. It has been raining here so much that everything is just always wet. But, its suppose to hit the dangerous heat levels this week and with no clouds in the sky either. I worry about people during heat like this.

I finally got my hair cut on Wednesday. I had terrible dead ends and it was making everything frizzy. It was also too long for me-especially in the summer. I start getting irritated when it gets caught under my bag strap. So, she cut off a few inches and I felt much better. Most importantly, my hair is much healthier.

Last Saturday my husband and I went to see Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Its my favorite Indiana Jones movie. It was nice to go to the movies again too. Sadly, its all so expensive! Everything is so expensive.

Luna is doing well still. She is all healed from her spay surgery and full on energy. We are still battling the house breaking. I have reached out to a behaviorist to get some advice about housebreaking a dog from a hoarding environment. This is different for us and I want to make sure I’m not inadvertently reinforcing bad habits. We just love her so much!

I’ve been a weird reading space. I don’t want to read anything that I “have” to read lately. Like, if its on my ARC list, I just can’t get into it. I ended up binging a bunch of short and smutty reads instead. Hopefully I get back into my ARCs soon (some of those are short and smutty too but as soon as I feel obligated to read it, my brain disengages).

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

Samantha

  1. yes the heat will be extreme this week. Sometimes one just has to break out and read what one wants instead of the plan!

  2. Yep, extreme heat here too! I am not a fan. Glad Luna is doing well after the surgery. House training is hard enough without the background she had. So I wish you luck! I often let my hair grow out in the summer so I don’t feel like I have to blow dry it and can just let it air dry or put it up in a bun/pony tail and be done with it. I think I’m weird that way. I’ll be cutting it back to short at the end of July. I feel like suddenly I’m in the reading zone at the end of the month. Or else I’ve had a bunch of good books! Although one or two review books I had to kind of skim my way through because they weren’t as good as I’d hoped but I still wanted to stay on my schedule. Here’s hoping your reading gets better this week!

I don’t remember the last time I went to the movie theatre. It really is expensive. My kid was used to getting up early to see the $5 matinee. I know the mud is an issue with your dogs, but at least the rain came with cloud cover. The sun has been brutal. Stay cool.

  4. Hey you! I’m glad to see that you’re still doing these weekly posts. I’m glad that Luna is doing well and living in Vegas, the heat can be so unbearable so I feel you. It’s been so long since I’ve been to the movies but I’m glad you had a good time and that you saw a movie you loved.

I haven’t read much of anything since I finished Kingdom of Ash last week. I’m starting The Romance Rivalry by Susan Lee tonight though and I’m excited to read something not so gloom and doom. Change things up. Most of this week was for k-dramas that I’m really enjoying. Good Boy and Our Unwritten Seoul. Both are so good!

I hope you have a great week, Sam!

  5. That heat sounds dreadful! As for the reading slump around review arcs – whenever I find myself quailing at the prospect of reading ‘have to’ books, I recall that I couldn’t afford to buy a whole bunch of these books, which are mostly from favourite, traditionally published authors and are expensive and I feel a lot better:).

  6. The heat is INSANE! It is suppose to be 102 tomorrow and I am already miserable! I hate the heat. I was losing a lot of my hair and started taking Biotin. Which has helped! just need a hair cut now because it’s all over the place.

Have a great week Samantha! HAPPY READING!

  7. It’s hot as hell here too! And I am in a weird reading mood as well. I hope Luna will bring you lots of joy and I have no doubt that you will ace her education! Have a great week Samantha!
